This medication does not become dangerous, once it expires, but it does start to lose efficacy and may not full eradicate an infection, which creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. It would be best to dispose of it and for her to see her doctor.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of most antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.
