Expired Sinex Liquicaps

Is it safe for me to take Sinex Dayime Congestion, Pressure and Pain Liquicaps if they expired 12/2019? They contain acetaminophen and phenylephrine. Thank you for your help!

The FDA advises against using expired medications.

The main issue with solid medications is that they tend to lose efficacy over time, so they may not work as well as they did, when they were new, which sometimes tempts people to take more, and that could still result in overdose.

Some liquid medications may actually go rancid, and could make you ill if you take them.

The expiration date listed on a medication is the longest period of time a manufacturer can be sure of the safety, and efficacy of their product, under average storage conditions.

Thus, medications don't become dangerous, per se, once expired, so your doctor might approve of you trying it, but you should be aware that it may not work as well.
