Expired Miralax Powder

Will MiraLAX that expired 11/15 still be effective? It's the individually sealed powder type.

Hi Carol,

From what I could gather, MiraLAX does have a shelf-life and expiration.

According to the frequently asked questions on MiraLAX.com, "It is not recommended to use MiraLAX beyond the labeled expiration date.”

However, I do think some factors influencing its expected shelf-life or integrity may also depend upon how it was stored as well as how long it has been since the product expired. If it hasn't been too long (e.g. a few months), my personal opinion is that it's probably fine, as expiration dates themselves can be arbitrary numbers, but you're still probably better off getting a new batch if you want to play it safe.

I am supposed to start iron pills which will give me constipation. I had a gastric bypass in 1999, and I have had three bowel obstructions in that time, all within the last 5 years. I am supposed to start taking the iron pills until I can have the IV infusion. The doctor said if I have another bowel obstruction I will have to have surgery. And being in the hospital with a tube in your nose to your stomach for days is very uncomfortable. I found a bottle of Miralax in my cupboard that expired and 05 2015. Does anyone know if it will still be effective. I really like the Miralax product but it's very expensive. So I am wondering if this is okay to take. Otherwise I will wait on taking the iron pills. But someone did give me a number for the company that makes Miralax so I will give them a call but it is a weekend and I don't think they will be open. But I will still try so I thought I would give you guys a chance to answer if I do not reach anyone. Thank you!
