I have a Dolo 650 tablet. Its mfg. date is showing sept. 2016, but the exp date is not clear. Can I still take it?

Yes, usually it will have 4 years of expiration from the date of mfg

In my investigation, there don't appear to be any reliable methods for finding out an expiration date based on batch numbers alone; even though logically it seems like it would make sense.

I think your best bet would be to contact your local pharmacy that you filled your prescription at for more specific details surrounding the quality and integrity of the medication.

As my own general rule of thumb, I know that expiration dates tend to be arbitrary, (based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system and not exact). So I'd probably grant myself a little leeway if I found myself in this predicament, but if it's many years past due then that's a different story and the active ingredients may not be nearly as potent. I don't recommend taking expired medication, but I do encourage others to use their own best judgment based on how well a product was stored and the type of substance it is.
