Excessive Eating Or Weight Gain With Loratadine, Anyone??

Just recently I complain to my doctor about my allergies, he put me on loratadine 10 mg once a day. It has been brought to my attention by my son, that I am eating way more than usual. We were just recently at an all-you-can-eat buffet and he looked at my plate and said man mom you sure are eating a lot, not that it's a bad thing I'm just saying normally you be done in like 10 maybe 15 and you're almost done with that whole plate. And it made me really take a step back and analyze how much I've been eating lately.

In doing so I realized that my appetite has increased double if not probably triple, because not only do I this medication, but I also take three or four medications that suppress my appetite so I know he is right. In researching I thought the corporate was my recently added Soma but I couldn't really find any weight gain side effects or stories or forums regarding weight gain and Soma.

And then it happened...

I stumbled across an article that said "your allergy medicine might be making you fat"! And then it dawned on me that the same day my doctor added Soma he also added loratadine to my daily regimen. And Loratadine is also an antihistamine, however the only weight gain articles I can find related to antihistamines claim the culprits to be Allegra and Zyrtec.

However, if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and why does like the duck then my God it must be a duck!

Therefore, with that being said, I would think that all antihistamines would be a weight gainer, because it would block the H1 histamine which is your fullness trigger for lack of better words.

So I just wonder is there anyone out there that can shed any light on their experience or knowledge on this matter?! I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you very much for your time and attention to this matter. God bless!

The FDA does list increased appetite as being one of its side effects, along with fatigue, nervousness, and dry mouth. Thus, weight gain can also occur, due to eating more than usual. It is a side effect of many antihistamines, though it is not that common. What are the markings on the Loratadine that you are taking?

My doctor recently put me on it, and I couldn't continue taking it, it made me feel horrible.

As to Soma, the FDA does not list weight or appetite changes as being among its side effects.

What other medications do you take?
