Ever Have Allergic Reactions From Doxepin?
UpdatedIn the past year and a couple months, i've gotten allergic to 13 medications. I have a brain injury which gave me chronic insomnia etc. I now have 'chronic urticaria'. I'm curently prescribed Ranitidine, Xolaire, and Benadryl. My allergist just threw the prescription Doxepin at me because I got allergic to Cetirizine. I took the first pill of Doxepin last night, allergic reactions lasted 2 and a half hours because I can't take Prednisone every night. Is Doxepin a good medication for allergies? My doctor said it was coincidence and doubled my dose for next week. Only asking if anyone likes Doxepin and has any relief from allergies. Already taking Zolpidem, didn't seem like Doxepin helped any.

Hello, Sarah! How are you?
Doxepin isn't usually used to treat allergies. it is a tricyclic antidepressant. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.
And Zolpidem is a sedative hypnotic that's used for the short-term treatment of insomnia. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, hallucinations, sleep actions and next-day hangover-like effects.
What type of doctor are you seeing?
Hi there Verwon,
Wonderful news. Went from becoming allergic to Cetirizine, then Doxepin, now Hydroxezine! I see an allergy specialist, sleep specialist, physical medicine doctor, and my primary. Kind of sad when my sleep specialist knew what was going on before my allergist. My allergist still tells me to take Doxepin but then my throat/tongue swells up. Guess the Xolair shot, ranitidine, and 5-6 benadryl is all that works for now. Still having reactions! Allergic to 3 medications in 2 and a half weeks could take time or it's another. All happens at night, every medication i'vw gotten allergic to and I'm suppose to get my degree within 2 semesters. Can't function without medications at night from chronic insomnia and i'm up to 5 herniated disks in my back, can't stop pain medications. Clueless and screwed over I guess. Life is grand. 14 months of allergies, 15 medications I got allergic to. Grand and dandy I guess. I have my Epi-pen! Safe! Ha, wow. Any idea of a special hidden allergy vitamin? Vitafusion but maybe vitamin C? There's got to be something! I'll keep up with my ongoing search....
