What Chris has posted is correct, this is an immediate release capsule of 5mgs of Oxycodone, manufactured by Ethex Corporation.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

However, Ethex no longer makes this product.

It is indeed 'oxycodone' 5mg.A pharmacist clarified this for me.It is not Oxycontin.Oxycontin is a brand name for a delivery system for oxycodone(generic drug and actual name) eneabling the drug to be given twice a day.There are tremendous advantages to this.The blood serum level of the pain reliever (oxtcodone) is kept w/out unchanging.No troughs of pain followed by another pill and a wave of relief-that begins to deminish within 3-hrs and is no longer reducing the suffering somewhere betwen 4-6 hours.
This leads to forgetting how many the patient has taken,reduced pain relief-THE WHOLE POINT-life is made easier for family as the medicine is only given twice daily.The pills mentioned above are fast acting oxycodone for what is called breakthrough pain. If it has to be used often-as it wil in most chronic pain patients,instead of filling the house with more and more pills the dose of Oxycontin is increased.Many pills around lead to a loss of accountability.In plain english someone or a few people close to the patient are dipping their hands in somebody elses medicine jar.The purpose is one of two possiblities;abuse or sell.Both are sinfilled and selfish-both are felonies.The latter can pack a person away for 20 YEARS in some states.Oxycontin is a wonderfull method of managing pain.Only MD's and pill-ferers (pun) give this breakthrough a bad name.No drug has a soul.No drug is bad,evil,good,or magical.It is a drug like oil is oil.It is what human beings do with these that has any meaning.Making ANY drug illegal is simply stupid and plays on simple unquestioning minds-lazy minds-that respond to emotions and shut out facts.Have our drug laws done one mg. of good?Have they set off criminal empires with armies and the ability to finance terrorism on a worldwide scale? Yes! Yes! 35-75 years of daily YES's! Think! Respond-don't react!
