I'm still looking for a replacement, too. Dr said he could try other things. Gave me a script for divigel and even though my insurance covers it, it costs more than paying out of pocket for estratest. I don't understand what the problem is. It was removed from the formulary last last year for me but I have had trouble getting it for years.

Antone know when covaryx will be available??
Re: Susan (# 13)
OMG this is what I had to do. I keep searching for a replacement because I am so miserable. I truly cant afford $130.00 a month. I have trouble sleeping, hot flashes, low energy.
I just found out today myself after being on this for over 20 years that my insurance doesn't cover it. I have to be on it due to the post and premenooause, due to a total hysterectomy at age 23. I'm having to see what is going to be covered by my insurance now. It's like starting all over and don't have that kind of patients or time to do. Any help would be appreciated as well.
My insurance no longer pays for it. They say the FDA no longer approves it. So I'm went off and feel miserable. Can't sleep, no energy so I may pay out if pocket and half the dosage.
I found out from my insurance company this week, after my pharmacy will no longer cover my Estratest (Estrogen/ Methyl testosterone), after being on it for 15 years, the FDA does NO LONGER approve it as a formulary approved medication. I swear I must have the longest running course of Menopause in history. I suffer horribly with these hot flashes; so bad I can hardly function. I almost feel like I've got the flu. Is there ANYTHING I can get over the counter, that will rid me of these hot flashes?
What can I use in place of (EEMT HS 0.0625/1.25MG TABLETS) with no Rx coverage? I'm looking for something over the counter that doesn't cost $150 a month.
I just paid 84.00 for 30 at Riteaid, the companies take advantage of us.
Sharon, have you had any luck with Covaryx or EEMT by Syntho Pharmaceuticals, distributed by Centrix Pharmaceuticals?
Considering how I feel for not having it that's a bargain!
ive been on this journey. here's equivalent:
esterified estrogens/methlyl testosterone 1.25/2.5
seriously, my doctor retired and my hot flashes were sooooo bad; nothing but full strength estratest would work and the new doctor didn't know how to order it. I finally talked to by pharmacist at Winn Dixie. the big problem is that now that im going to be 65 next month, I have to order the meds from the same place that told me they didn't have them.
urg.....
I'm glad I found this chat - I'm new to all this and can't live in this misery and longer - I got my tests back - of course it's all low - but normal menopause readings , I am about to start replacemet , but debating about Estratest HS ( my friend OBGYN recommends), and BHRT , I can't afford a specialist ( $600 first visit ), I'm not sure what to take at this point .
i use BHRT and have for three years. BUT i still take the hs estratest. those of us on estratest know there is NOTHING like it. i use BHRT cream. and a triturate. i have wanted and tried to go without the bit of estratest i take, but after 4 mos of low energy, no motivation, i went back to my estratest, BHRT cocktail. believe me, if i could just use BHRT i would be thrilled. and, the BHRT level has to be raised every three months because my body grows used to it. estratest level has never gone up in 25 yrs. blood tests are expensive, and so is BHRT. i have no insurance.
I do understand the misery you ladies are in, since I am also a woman and have had many such adventures on the hormone roller coaster, so I completely empathize.
However, if you haven't had your actual hormones tested to see what's causing your problems, then I strongly encourage you to do so, before continuing to take these medications that contain synthetic hormones, especially forms of estrogen.
If your natural estrogen levels are actually fine, or high, then you may only be making your problems worse and placing your health in danger, since these synthetic HRT medications are known to carry great risks.
A specialist or endocrinologist can test your hormone levels for you, it should be done with a saliva test, with samples taken at various times throughout the month.
The old school medical thinking for any woman showing symptoms of hormonal imbalance is to just assume she's low in estrogen and place her on an HRT medication like this, which could be even worse since this one contains a form of testosterone.
However, it is now known that many woman suffer from low progesterone and actually have estrogen dominance.
Thus, the solution may be as simple as using an over the counter natural progesterone product to supplement it back.
I do caution everyone to always consult their doctors before making any treatment changes, but it is definitely worth looking into.
Have any of you had your hormone levels tested?
yeah, and since that is not a generic, i bet it costs a fortune. not that we poor suffering women wouldn't pay a fortune to come out of this misery. A couple of Canadian pharmacies have the generic for about 100.00 for 100 pills. The generic of Estratest, that is.
This whole thing is so strange. Costco would not fill my script for Estratest, or any generic, but Krogers would. I don't know what is going on with this stuff. I know Syntex is a replacement but as far as I can tell, it is unavailable. I have read from the company that the generic will be available soon, it is a matter of reclassifying the drug as a controlled substance because of the testosterone and the abuse of it by men looking for steroids. Thanks for your answer....
The exact replacement is a new product called Covaryx. It has the same active ingredients as Estratest. This was according to Centrix Pharmaceuticals.
