The medication in question is ESSEXOR!! For hot flash symptoms. Is it effective and safe??
Did you mean the medication Effexor, which contains the active ingredient Venlafaxine?
It is an SNRI antidepressant, and as such, it is not approved to treat hot flashes or menopausal symptoms.
However, some doctors do prescribe it, off-label, to help with them. Doctors are allowed to prescribe something in this manner, according to their own experience from finding out what other conditions certain medications help with.
It may cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, weight gain and dry mouth.
