I suffer from severe gerd, was diagnosed about 3yrs ago. I was on nexium but due to availability I changed to pantocid. My question is for how long can one be on either pantocid or nexium?

Pantocid contains the active ingredient Pantoprazole, which is in the same class as the Esomeprazole in the Nexium, so they are both proton pump inhibitors that are used to reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach.

The length of time for use can vary, depending on the severity of the condition being treated. You should follow your doctor's advice to get the best results.

In most cases, they are used for anywhere from 8 to 16 weeks and the effects of using them long-term have not been studied.

However, so far, there haven't been any major adverse reports tied to the medications in people that have used them for longer periods of time.

Has your doctor given you any time specification?
