Eliquis Gastrointestinal Problems
(Newest replies first)

I have been on Eliquis since 2016. I was first on 5M twice a day after suffering a small stroke. I had bleeding behind my right eye and blood in my urine. I was then put on 2.5 twice a day. Still get nosebleeds. I have gained 20lbs am extremely tired all the time and feel like the life is drained out of me. Starting in July I have had stomach problems and the gastroenterologist put me on a low food map diet. After two weeks I re-introduced dairy. I had ice cream and had extreme diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain. It seems I am now lactose intolerant.

Re: Nanarose (# 5)
My Dr gave me 5m Eliquis beecause U am in AFIB all the time. That and Diltiazem 120 Time release. It did a number on me. The 5m had blood in my urine and bleeding behind my right eye. I asked him if I could take a smaller dose of both. I now take them every s hours and it has helped. no ,ore blood in my urine or eye.
Had small stroke in 2017. 80 years old. Said I had to take Eliquis for life, Entreso and Rapatha, Being on Medicare I have to juggle these expensive meds or I will be in the $$$ cellar (expensive donut hole) Also take 8 other meds that are cheaper. I asked for 2.5 mg as to lessen chances of bleeding. They said no. My right eye is bleeding and retina doctor said now I havev macular degeneration. My arms are purple. I cough my head off with lost of phelm and think my ribs are broken. My stomache is a mess and food backs up into my mouth and often have to spit it out. Also very horse. Anyone else out there similar?
Yes, there are other alternatives that you can try, now, including the Warfarin that Bella mentioned, they each just may require different monitoring, and testing, while you are taking them.
Side effects are typically the same, for most of them, according to the FDA, and may include nausea, headache, easy bruising, and increased risk of bleeding.
However, the stomach/GI issues are normal with Eliquis, they are considered very common side effects.
What has your doctor advised?
You need to taper off it and/or take another blood thinner. My husband was on Coumadin from CHF at 50 years old for five years. His nose bled for years so I took him for second opinion. The doctor IMMEDIATELY took him off it. Go get a second opinion it’s worth it. Hope you feel better after that.
