Elderly Neighbor Possible Abuse

I was told by a elderly neighbor who lives in my building that her home care aid wipes her bottom with gasoline to dry her skin up. I never heard of such a thing and told her she needs to mention this to her doctor tomorrow when she goes to her doctor appointment. Have you ever heard of gasoline being used to treat a patient for anything? I asked her if it burns when she puts it on her behind and she says no. I think it is wrong.

Hello, Jerome! How are you?

No, I can assure you that neither the NIH, nor the FDA lists gasoline as having any valid medical use.

However, given the fact that it doesn't burn, I wonder if she is misunderstanding what the aid is using?

Either way, the best thing to do is to make sure that her doctor is informed, so they can make inquiries and get to the root of the matter, just in case.

If you know who her primary care doctor is, or if you can find out, you can call them and inform them on your own, to make sure they know what she said and about your concerns for her welfare. They cannot discuss her medical condition with you, but they can take your report and look into the matter.

Is there anything else I can help with?
