Effexor Xr Dosing Vs. Wellbutrin Sr Dosing

Is the efficacy in dosing comparable or the same??
My rheumatologist titrated me off Effexor XR 150mg which I was taking to assist in controlling my Fibromyalgia pain & put me on Wellbutrin SR 150mg. I am 3 weeks taking Bupropion & I have been crying & depressed like never in my life the past 3 days & having suicidal thoughts. I just thought I was experiencing major depression due to a few recent events but THEN it just dawned on me I switched these medications recently and I feel this CHANGE is what is affecting my mental state. What do I do???? I can't take the crying & feeling this way much longer. It is Sunday & I know the first advice is going to be CALL MY DOCTOR. What is the second suggestion, increase the Bupropion? Take an Effexor XR?? I already took the Bupropion for today because I forgot to take it yesterday & missing the dose can't be the reason because this all started Friday with these thoughts & constant crying!!!

I took Effexor many years ago, getting off of it was pure hell, I wanted to ram my head through a wall, I had all the symptoms you described. I thought I was going to die. In my opinion Effexor is a terrible drug. I am on no medications now, but was on Wellbutrin for a few years and love love love this drug, it is amazing. I couldn't say enough great things about it. I don't know about transferring straight from on to the other, I just know getting off the Effexor was awful and took a long time to get that squared away. Very scary.
Hang in there, Wellbutrin will be worth it!
I have been on Wellbutrin 150mg, 1 per day, and being changed to Effexor 150mg, 1 per day. Can I just stop the Wellbutrin, and start taking the effexor?
Regarding bothersome bouts of crying, and I guess we've all been there at some time in our life, for whatever reason[s], the next time anyone's eyes start to water for what may seem no apparent reason, it might prove extremely efficacious to dreamily dwell even but momen'tear'ily on the following, to help s_hed'onistic some lachrymose-light -- and not merely tears -- on that which [prev]ails:
"Perhaps my tears are the prism that I need to find the rainbow that is me."
Good ol' Kermit was "on song" in his declaring out of l_ove'rtly that he'd made the "Rainbow Connection".
If you flick a drop of water, or perhaps better yet, let a great big teardrop fall, onto a computer's screen, then view it up really close with or without a magnifying glass, you'll then see things as they really are, and how they tend or bend[not end] to colour your world...if you let them.
Given that many folk are on record as having said[when they want to move on from any (p)unpleasant situation]: "I think I'll just mosey along", I wonder if it's possible for everyone to just lachry_mose'y along in life at a leisurely pace should ever burdens beggar...and not feel that they have to rush at 'tear'_ing themselves away in any great hurry?
Hi thanks for responding. Actually my doctor did not have me stop the Effexor XR abruptly he had me tapper off 7 days with each reduced dose, typically he said 3 days is fine but since I had suffered withdrawal flu like symptoms before after missing two days in a row he wanted to be more cautions so tapered 7 days before reducing dose each time. The week I started the minimum Effexor XR dose is when I was starting the Wellbutrin so took them both for a week together before going on the Wellbutrin alone. I have currently been on Wellbutrin now for almost 4 weeks was getting ready to refill my script this week.
'Today' I am feeling a little better but yesterday I still was crying until I fell asleep. I spoke with my doctor first thing this morning and he agreed with me that this med must not work well with me and he is having me just stop it and start taking a low dose of Effexor XR. He said it will take a few days for it to get out of my system (which I realize) but that once on the Effexor he wants me to check back with him in 7 days to make sure I am doing better & check how I am feeling then.
What a horribly depressing and mood altered weekend I had!!! I don't recall EVER being THAT upset for as long as it has been. This medication just drastically altered my mental state and I am not even taking this medication FOR depression, it is to assist with my Fibromyalgia pain.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
What you may be experiencing is a rebound effect, if your doctor had you stop the Effexor abruptly and just switch to the Wellbutrin. This can occur with abrupt cessation of any medication that you've been taking for awhile.
And, since you said you are only 3 weeks in to taking the new medication, Wellbutrin which you can learn more about here, it makes sense, because it can take 4 to 6 weeks for these symptoms to taper off and for your body to adjust.
At this point, it is most likely just a matter of waiting it out for a few more weeks, until things improve, unless your doctor instructs you to do something different.
How are you feeling today?
