Effexor Xr 150mg To Wellbutrin Xl 15mg

I am moving from Effexor XR to wellbutrin xl because of severe weight gain. I have been trying to wean myself off to start the new medicine but I can't side the moodiness. Can I go ahead and start Wellbutrin if I have only moved from 150 Effexor to 75 so the change isn't do traumatic?

What has your doctor advised?

I really wouldn't suggest mixing the two, unless your doctor advises you to do so, since they both act in similar ways, on similar chemicals in the body.

For over 12 years I've been on Effexor Venlafaxine XR 150 mg, taking it as my doctor prescribed "at 7 pm". I gained lots of weight over the years, and I could never fall asleep at a normal hour, &I never slept through the night. I cried often this past year, and I felt that it just wasn't working anymore! The doctor agreed when I requested to be put on the Wellbutrin XL 150 mg. The instructions were to take one Wellbutin with my one Effexor dose for 3 days.Then to stop taking the Effexor and just take one Wellbutrin a day for 7 days. At that point, take take 2 Wellbutrins for 2 weeks and go back and see the doctor. I've just started taking my 2 morning Wellbutrins today for the 2 weeks. The withdrawl from Effexor has been dreadfuI!!! I never associated it with my switch in medications, and I thought that I just had the worst case of the flu I've ever had! I've been having severe wave after wave of bone chilling cold to severe hot sweating spells 24 hours a day for the past 5 days, along with the nausea,light headed, headaches, forgetfulness, dizziness, and general feeling of ill heath! I'd given up driving because I couldn't concentrate on the traffic and the lights etc.
The reason I'm writing is because of all those things, but when I got the new Wellbutrin prescription, I was told to take it "with" the Effexor at the same time!
I asked how I was going to do that as the old one was for the evening and the new was the morning! She was shocked to hear that because she said that I shouldn't have been taking the Effexor at night and no wonder I couldn't sleep and felt like things were getting
worse! It stimulates the brain instead of relaxing into going to sleep! So my advice is....make sure you talk and listen to your pharmacist. My bottle of Effexor only says "Take 1 Capsule Once A day" and it was the doctor who gave me the verbal instructions to take it at 7 pm at night 12 years ago!
I sure hope I get over these withdrawls soon and start feeling healthy again!
