Effects Of Nortriptyline
UpdatedI have just started taking this drug and understand that it is to help me sleep and help with chronic pain. However, I cannot sleep well with this, even though I feel drugged for at least 15 hours after a very low dose - 10 mg. It is also supposed to help with depression, but I feel more depressed. Can anyone shed light on this for me? What are your experiences with this drug?

Hi Mieke,
As a psychotherapist and a Holistic practitioner I wanted to address your comment because it sounds like your body is not responding well to the medication. You are not sleeping well and feeling drugged out much of the day and most alarming is that even though it is supposed to help you with the depression, it is actually making you feel worse. I am speculating, but are you a young adult (18 to 25 yrs.old)? Some anti depressant medications have had reverse effects on young people.
As an educator and a healer I advocate dealing with the symptoms rather than medicating them. Your body is telling that there is something wrong and it is trying to get your attention. Would you consider other approaches to feeling better like talk therapy? Psychotherapy can help in getting to the root of the problem so that the symptoms go away naturally. But if you have given therapy a chance and it hasn't worked, there are also herbs or more natural medicine that you can try as well. They are not as potent and don't have the side effects the meds have.

I am on pamelor to help me sleep and im on a low dose. This med can make you drowsy to sleep. I'm sensitive to meds as it is but it is helpful due to withdrawal i have from risperdol.
I was prescribed 25mg of Nortripylin for mild despression. To my surprise, I had trouble sleeping, and felt drugged all day; I could hardly move and fell asleep very easily. I also had aching all over my body, including headaches. So I stopped taking it, as it did not seem to lift my depression.
I take nortriptyline to stop an excessive build of gases in the stomach that builds so much it pushes on my lungs. All else is ok in this area. But again I find it hard to sleep on this med. Is there another med like it but will let me sleep. The first med the Dr. gave me cost a fortune so he gave this instead. Also I already have continual problems with constipation so this doesn't help in that area.

I started on 25mg Nortriptyline a few weeks ago, then got to 50mg last week, then to 75mg last night. Since I started on 50mg, anytime I walk I feel like the floor is going up and down like a wave. Anyone else experience that and if so does it go away?
What natural meds are there for depression? I've had bad reactions to most depression meds n even my psychiatrist don't know what else to try.
Hello everyone,my doctor put me on Gabapentin 300mgDuloxetibr 20mg Nortriptyline 10mg what's the difference in treating pain.

Hi, I'm only on 10mg (1-2 pills a night) and I feel same way, I'm only 24. Experiencing nausea and chronic fatigue most of the day as well & my lifting numbers in the gym are decreasing too. Been on this medication for around 1.5 weeks now , wonder if the symptoms will subside at all or if i should just stop taking the meds. I'm on it for pain across my digestive system, occasional pain across my left lower back, insomnia&depression?? not sure its worth taking though.
I took 10mg of Nortriptyline for four nights and it’s made me ill. Caused a massive acid reflux that went into my lungs. Breathing difficulties, headache and weakness. I will never touch this stuff again ever!
I have developed a really dry sore mouth over the last 2 months. It has been suggested it is my Nortriptyline. But I have been on this for 4 years with no problems until now. Anyone else experienced this?
