Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic that's most commonly used to treat UTIs, but is also effective against E. Coli.

Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. The elderly may be more prone to suffering severe side effects, so this antibiotic should be avoided in that population.
