No, no codeine, though it is a narcotic from a related opiate family. Duragesic is actually the name of the drug. This is actually 80 times stronger than morphine, and these patches cannot be used more frequently than every 48 hours at the prescribed dosage. They are generic for Fentanyl patches.

These patches were prescribed by my doctor for all over body arthritis pain and fibromyalgia, since there are no arthritis drugs on market I can take. I was on vioxx and Bextra for years, but no longer. I also take Mobic, 2 Darvocets per day, but the patches cause severe itching, which is why I am asking about the codiene content. I had to remove the patch. Are you sure they are 80 times stronger than morphine, because they barely stop the pain in my joints and knees, ankles and back, wrists, etc.
Yes, they are that strong, however they have a very long half-life, 17 hours, which means you have to wear them for awhile for the full beneficial effect to hit your body systems, it could take a few days for some people, and for others a week or two.
Like I said, they are related to Codeine, even though that is not the ingredient, so that is probably what caused your itching.
You are also on the lowest dose available, you can get these in up to 100mgs, and can use up to 3 of them at a time to get the best pain relief.
I have bad reactions to straight codeine, too, so I also had problems when I tried to use these, but not itching, I was so sick, I couldn't even hold down water, and it lingered for several days after I removed the patch, because of that long half-life.
Anytime people have chronic pain, like your or I do, it takes a lot to alleviate it, and you will very rarely be able to experience full pain relief, mostly you can just get a little easing on the symptoms so you can function.
Has your doctor ever tried you on any of the long acting narcotics like Oxycontin, Avinza, Kadian, or MS Contin?
For RSD and fibromyalgia I take a combination of: Fentanyl 75, Lodine, Vicodin, Flexeril, Neurontin, and of course good old Wellbutrin so I'll actually get out of bed. This combonation helps me function but it's a far cry from being free of pain.
