I have been on this pump/meds since 2/24/09 but prior to pump placement l was on oral meds for about 3-4 yrs. I have a really bad case of a bone deterioration disease, now they also have discovered scoliosis, the reason for my poor position while standing. I also had numerous surgeries, 2 disc fusions, 2 knee replacements and a hip replacement. As time goes by l have needed adjustments with the meds. Subsequently l think from the adjustments of increases l find myself falling asleep in the most peculiar situations, and at the strangest times. So l have asked the nurse who comes to switch out the old for new every 4-5 months, to please decrease the amount being transferred into my spine/back. NOW I need to know what the side effects would be from the increases and please be aware that the medication amount is very minute and only goes to the "spine" no where else. Now not being able to figure out why l am falling asleep no matter where you put me l have asked nurse Thornton to please ask my primary rehab doctor to decrease the amount of meds l am getting at this point. Hopefully l will see a change, God willing to help me. I need help with this problem. Thank you.

Which medication is being used in your pump?

Most opiates can cause drowsiness as a side effect, along with somnolence and sedation, as listed by the FDA. So it could be just the way these medications affect you.

I used to have a similar problem when I was in pain management and taking Morphine. It was very hard for me to stay awake and I often crashed out in the middle of reading a book or watching a movie.
