Drug Overdose Morphine And Codeine

My son passed away and the toxicolgy report just says what was in his blood was morphine and urine was codeine. Please someone tell me what that means. What was it that my son took. I do not understand these things and I hoenstly do not know what my son took that took his life. Can anyone answer this question with an idea of what it was or a fact of what it was?

Both Morphine and Codeine are narcotic pain medications and neither is present coupled with the other in any medication, so he would have had to take them both separately.

Morphine is available by itself, in several formulations, there is a time release product called MS Contin, the regular release and an instant release.

Codeine is available as a regular release formulation, by itself, as well as coupled with Acetaminophen in some products.

Both of these medications can cause depression of the central nervous system, even in normal dosage amounts, so if he overdosed, it means that he more than likely took high amounts of one, or both of them and it caused his system to slow down and be depressed to the point of death. That is how most overdose deaths occur. Their heart starts to beat slower and slower and their breathing does the same thing.
