Drinking On Metoprolol Er Succinate 25 Mg

Hi Everyone! I started taking Metoprolol Er Succinate about a week ago. My heart rate was spiking too high while working out. After a stress test my doctor thinks I have a thyroid problem and but me on the medicine until I get my blood results back. The thing is I am only 22 years old. I would like to go out drinking tomorrow with my friends. I am thinking about not taking my medicine that night ( I usually take it at night) to avoid possible side effects. Has anyone drank on this medicine before? Am I good to go? I saw online it may make side effects worse but I am mainly concern whether mixing the two is fatal or not. I want to get better but I also don't want to give up my youth. Please help!

I personally have drank at times quite a lot on toprol with no adverse effects. That being said at your young age I personally would not over indulge because all medications carry different side effects its always better to go lightly on the alcahlol
If your heart rate is spiking during workouts you need to stop working out so much because too much exercise can be very bad for you. Taking this type of med for that reason is not something you wnt to do. Get a new doctor, first off. Taking this or almost any drug that isn't necessary will cause you to need it. Metoprol is for high blood pressure ( hypertension). You can actually develop high or low blood pressure by taking this med unnecessarily.
Thanks for the information, Matt! Your post is greatly appreciated.
Hello, Jennifer! At this point, if you are having these types of health issues, it may be best to refrain from imbibing. Many people aren't aware of the full facts regarding alcohol and while it can intensify the side effects of medications and may cause liver damage, it can also be cardiotoxic.
And as Matt said, it isn't safe to just stop the medication or skip a dose.
Have you consulted your doctor? You need to discuss it with them, before you do anything.
I take it also, since 2008 I believe. Doc prescribed it to me for my palpitations. I used to drink quite a bit while on these meds, with no noticeable side effects. By quite a bit, I mean 20 plus beers within a few hours. It's not a good idea to drink at all while on these meds, I know, but I like beer. Whatever you do, do not just stop taking them. You have to be weaned off them gradually.
