Drinking Alcohol While Taking Lexapro 5 Mg

Hello All, I am about to start taking Lexapro 5 MG and I was wondering if people have had many issues with having alcohol on the lower dosage? I've read other discussion boards and it seems that at higher levels alcohol has much more of an impact, but I am wondering what others have experienced at the lower dosage. Regardless of the dosage, the FDA recommends against combining any prescription medication with alcohol. It tends to cause worsening of the side effects, so it may make you feel more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual. One drink could affect you as if you'd had 2 and so one. This is especially prominent with SRRI antidepressants.

Additional concerns include the fact that alcohol is a depressant, so if you're taking this to treat depression, it could just aggravate your condition and both alcohol and medications can be taxing on your liver, combining them may worsen this effect.

If your doctor does okay your occasional indulgence, then please be sure that you aren't driving or operating dangerous machinery.

I started lexapro almost ten yrs ago.
I quit for awhile ,and felt better off of it,but recently started again,just 5mg.
I noticed when I took it,I drank more.
Sounds silly,but I had to have wine every night?
I never had drinking issues before I started lexapro.
I've read much feedback from others that,say the drug makes them drink,and when they went off it,they lost the craving for alcohol.
I am going to wean office the lexapro, and see what happens.

Yes same here, this is why I'm coming off lexapro, found if I have one drink I don't have the sense I used to have when not on it like I'd keep drinking, I reckon it's because my inhibition not to drink too much is lessened, I'm glad I'm not the only one and that it's not just in my heD
