Hi nikki,
I don't know where in NJ you're located, but I was able to find many pain management doctors in that state who are known for prescribing the types of medications you're describing. Posted below are just a few of the doctors I came across:
1. Brian Chu, M.D.
52 Edelweiss Lane
Voorhees, New Jersey 08043
2. Maurice Davidson, M.D.
129 Devon Road
Somers Point, New Jersey 08244
3. Shan Nagendra, M.D.
654 Avenue C
Bayonne, New Jersey 07002
4. Edward Rachlin, M.D.
10 Shawnee Drive
Watchung, New Jersey 07060
5. Horia Schwartz, M.D.
106 Valley Street
South Orange, New Jersey 07079
6. Frederick Lu, M.D.
1156 Liberty Avenue
Hillside, New Jersey 07205
Unfortunately, no one can really know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion and not on someone else's previous appointment (especially since many doctor's are now worried about losing their licensing for prescribing too many narcotics).
Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Just make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach in my opinion, is to discuss up front and honestly what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. Most doctors will take it under consideration and hear you out if you approach them in this manner. I believe a lot of patients don't get the medication they need because they are approaching the doctor in such a needy way that they are being viewed as addicts or junkies and not patients. So as awkward as that may seem, it is something to consider and be made aware of, because sadly enough, that is how many rudimentary doctors tend to think.
I hope this info helps and wish you good luck on finding the right doctor!
I also was treated with patch & taffy for my 1st 12 yrs out of 20 yrs of pain with a dr who did more than injections & surgery. I was told the fentanyl was only approved for cancer patients. The DEA closed down my Dr. Now I cant find a new Dr. The DEA really screwed us. I've got damage from my neck and back & severe damage to rt leg, pain goes into my foot & thigh. Everyone needs opiates but the DEA won't allow. I fear this pain will have me use illicit drugs, only to OD. My days & nights are full (no relief). I don't think I'll make it for more than 1yr in this crippling pain. I guess this is what the DEA wants? They don't think anyone but those with cancer gets opiates. I'm 60 & now my back has worsened with osteoporosis.
