Doxycycline & Lyme Bullseye Rash

My doctor put me on Doxycycline for 3 weeks after noticing a bullseye around a bite on my arm. I was outside three days earlier in an area that had tick warnings, so she had a strong suspicion it was Lyme. But the bite actually had two puncture wounds and not the typical bullseye where you see a distinct ring around it. So now I’m thinking it might actually be a spider bite. I’m concerned I might be on antibiotics for no reason. Is it harmful to be on antibiotics for so long if I’m not sick? She did a blood analysis, but said it will most likely come back negative since I just got bit. I was told the blood work won’t show anything for another few weeks, so I could be taking a risk if I stop the antibiotic. Does anyone know if a tick bite would have two punctures?

Were the puncture wounds spaced evenly apart? There is a chance that you might have been bitten more than once, or by more than one tick.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

However, if it is any reassurance, while it never hurts to double check with your doctor, an antibiotic is also commonly prescribed for spider bites.

A bulls eye type ring with two puncture wounds would most likely be a brown recluse. You may need Bactrim, as doctor has prescribed Doxy as if this was a tick bite. Check pictures on the web, one presentation of brown recluse bite can look like an EM.

Tick bites usually get red, swell and itch. Spider bite by brown recluse will turn dark at the center as the venom eats the flesh. Rocky Mountain spotted fever from ticks will make you have a bullseye rash and high fever. There is a blood test for that.

If you've been on them 3 weeks already, I'd get off. Otherwise when you need them, they won't help. If possible, get 2nd opinion from another doctor. I know I have ITP and was brought into hospital clinically dead because I only had 1 platelet in my body. I was bleeding from everywhere and my blood looked like tar. When I got out of the hospital, I was put on antibiotics one week a month as a preventive against infection because my platelets kept rising and falling, I also have cancer. When I found new doctors, I was taken off of antibiotics immediately because when I got sick, I stayed sick and I'm allergic to steroids and cortisone. I was also informed to many antibiotics cause yeast infection and other infection. Hope this helps you.

Please note that Ticks are a member of the spider family - (8 legs). They do carry diseases so if you Dr puts you on antibiotics don’t look for advise from the general public. Seek a second opinion from another qualified Dr. It is better to be treated and not need it than to go untreated and find out too late that you have complications from not accepting immediate treatment. A lot of the Tick born diseases can go undetected and live in your body for years and once they are detected, treatment may be to late to reverse the damage. The Drs and people are slowly realizing the severity of Tick born diseases left untreated and the damage as a result.
