I have been given doxycycline against Lyme disease, but I suspect I have a jaw abscess/head infection as the jaw is very painful my headaches are localised as well as inflamed nerves and my head feels as if it has pus at the base. Will doxycycline work for abscess and head infections or do I need to get different treatment?

It is a broad spectrum antibiotic, so it can help with various types of infections. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash.

However, if you have an abcess, it is very important to consult a doctor to discover what has caused it. If you don't, then the underlying cause could remain, and may cause the infection to return.

How advanced was your Lymes? that can cause such symptoms, as well, if it has been left to progress.

Are you on any other medications?
