Doxofylline is basically a xanthine derivative like theophylline.
All xanthine derivatives have the effect on heart rate and pulse rate because of their affinity towards adenosine receptors (A1 & A2 receptors, which are present in heart to regulate the oxygen demand, in brain involve in hormone secretions, in skin, also in some other parts of body.) When these receptors are stimulated they effect on heart rate and increase the blood pressure and palpitation.
Doxofylline is found to have the very least affinity for adenosine receptors, and this is the basic difference between doxofylline and other xanthine derivative specially theophylline, and this is because of its chemical structure in which there is an addition of a ring (dioxolane ring) at position 7th of the doxofylline, which reduced its affinity for adenisine receptors. When they have no or very least effect on those receptors their effects on heart rate and other areas are reduced to a great level. Although we can not say it has no effect because it is actually a group effect so we can not say it has no effect but we can say it has a very least effect on heart rate and pulse rate.
I have been taking doxophyline 400 for last 8 months continuously. Similarly I have been taking montilukust for preventing asthma. Could you suggest me how can reduce taking the table. If yes, which one I can stop taking. It's noted that I am also taking Ticamet/ Salmeteol therapy for twice a day.
