Dosing

I was taking Bupropion 150 mg SR twice per day ( so i was taking a total of 300 mg per day). Then my Dr switched me to the bupropion HCL 150 mg XL once per day and said it was the same as taking 300 mg per day. It doesn't seem right to me. Any thoughts on why this makes sense?

Your doctor may be referring to the notion that 150mgs of extended release Bupropion is similar to taking it twice per day; since it remains in your system for a much longer period of time. Perhaps it is still in your system by the time you would've previously taken your second dose.

It's not 100% clear to me, but that's the only logical reasoning I can think of. They say if you take 150mgs of XL in the morning, then you shouldn't need to take anymore of it later in the day. Whereas with SR you would need to take it a couple times since it doesn't remain in your system as long. Comparing it to an extra dose of 150mgs still doesn't make a lot of sense, but I'd be interested in knowing how it works out for you.
