Does Femilon Contain Medroxyprogesterone ?

Hello All,

I have been using femilon since one month... I am experiencing severe hair loss.. I consulted my dermatologist and she told me that if your contraceptive pills contain medroxyprogesterone it triggers hair loss.... so does femilon contain medroxyprogesterone ?

To be accurate, hair loss can be a side effect of most synthetic hormones and that is what is used in these oral contraceptives. However, it is usually related to the artificial estrogens, not the artificial forms of progesterone, in most people.

Femilon contains ehtinylestradiol (an artificial estrogen) and desogestrel (an artificial progesterone).

The reason many women suffer hair loss during perimenopause and menopause is due to the fact that their progesterone levels drop off, when they stop ovulating, but their estrogen levels remain high for awhile.

Have you consulted your doctor? You may be able to try a different contraceptive with other active ingredients, not all of them may cause you to experience the hair loss.
