Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss?

I have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)
Re: vicky (# 10)
See if you can find my message. I had bad side affects too.

Can you write back? I’ve been in pain management for 15 years. I’m on oxycodone which helps but I’m still at a level of about 8 when walking, doing chores etc. I wondered about the morphine pump and its success or not. {edited for privacy}
I had been on Lyrica for a few months. ( had neuropathy in my foot). I had awful things happening to me, but didn’t know the cause. I would fall asleep while eating; while talking; forgot how to do things : how to use tv remote. ; how to drive my car ; lost lots of weight ; couldn’t eat much; slept a lot;
I suddenly came to my senses. Thought, “what am I taking that’s new?” After realizing that the only thing that I was taking was the lyrics. I ruled out every other drug.
I went on line to a Lyrica discussion board to see if any other people had these side affects. When there were dozens who did, I was so relieved that it wasn’t just in my mind. I learned how to wean myself off the drug.
I don’t know, personally, anyone who had this happen to them. Did anyone here have this experience?
Re: Karel (# 16)
Clonodine is a blood pressure med which also really gives you a bad dry mouth.

I know you posted this awhile ago but I have the exact same symptoms. I was on Lyrica off and on since 2009. It's now 2023. My life... My children.. my marriage... My friends. I mean it's catastrophic, honestly. I kept thinking the Lyrica was messing me up so I would stop taking it but the pain increased exponentially by the 6th month so I had to go back on it. Not realizing how it was destroying my ability to communicate, recall information... Basically I had dementia symptoms. Then I couldn't walk this summer. Still have issues and require a cane. I used medical marijuana to get off it. MM helps clear toxins out of your system by the way so that is part of why it was helpful. It is also a natural antiinflammatory so your body won't hurt has much while you begin to heal and recover. Not saying it solved my problems, but it was definitely a component.
Yes totally. I only take 200 mg a day because of the weight gain and memory loss. Sometimes Im unable to find a word or finish a sentence. My long term memory is superb.
Absolutely. And you are on a very high dose. Mine is like amnesia. I have various timed releases it is only by accident that I had this side effect also. And, worse those close to you forget that YOU forgot the afternoon and after four years I would shaking me and ...this is very difficult in close relationships. Reading how to wean yourself is no picnic either.
I have been on Lyrica for four years at 75mg three times a day, but usually only one in the AM and PM. I also developed over the years many symptoms that were identical to different auto-immune disorders. The worst of which is AMENSIA, not memory loss which sometimes with enough prompting will bring back some memory. AMENSIA however, is a loss of time and never returns i.e., watching a movie with no recall the next day; participating in a project with no recall; people discussing very important decisions with no recall. This is the difference from memory loss to a block of time lost forever. It is a side effect that is very casually mentioned by the doctor prescribing or the pamphlet inside of the Lyrica box. This is permanent and worse yet is when you and your doctor begin the weaning off process may release more side effects and as difficult to wean off as opiates. Has anyone been weaned off of Lyrica? If so, please share your experience.

Did the lyrica cause the need for 29 surgeries?
Re: Marti (# 447)
How are you tapering off?
Re: Debbie (# 450)
How did you do that?
Re: SURVIVOR OF LYRICA (# 452)
Please tell me if you came off of Lyrica, how you were weaned off of Lyrica and what was replaced?
Re: Kat (# 8)
Lyrica is a very potent medication with horrible side effects. I have amnesia where I have no recall from time to time which is frustrating for those around me because I act normal. If you take Medical Marijuana, do not take the day time blend. I fell down everywhere, I had tremors, I could not remember what I started to discuss and asked people, what was I saying. But the worse part if you want to wean off with a doctors assistance he will tell you the side effects are worse. You're on Lyrica for life.
Stop taking it now.
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Though Lyrica did a fantastic job of taking care of pain, I stopped taking it because of memory loss and general fogginess. Word loss was apparent to all, and I kept losing my place in a conversation. Family was worried it was the onset of dementia. Stopping it cured the problem, but it took awhile.
I took it for 10 years when I was told I had fibromyalgia. It causes weight gain, memory loss and interferes with my eyes. The side effects don't go away. They get worse. I wean myself off...now I can remember things and read better and have lost weight.
Re: Lorrie (# 446)
Yes to all your side effects of Lyrica!! Yes.
Short story. Falls. I had more serious falls on Lyrica than ever before. One night I went out my door to bring my dog in. A beautiful night, by the way. So I stepped out my door, and next thing I knew I was back in my bed with a very painful and swollen black eye. A real shiner. Like someone came in my yard and decked me. No idea. No memory whatsover. Every trip I've ever taken, and there have been many since large cerebellar stroke, I remember going down and getting back up. That night, I just remember hubby asking what the #$%& happened? Going out the next day, hoping to trigger a memory, nothing....absolutely nothing brought back that memory. Don't know where in my yard, or how I got back into my house. Scary stuff to have caused COMPLETE amnesia. Scary stuff. After reading about the side effects, after the use of, I tapered off and quit using it. Trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathy, will not longer be treated by that poison.
I had those symptoms with Lamictal my psychiatrist didn't want to take me off my medical doctor took me off
