Does Anyone Have Experience Taking More Than 180 Mg Of Allegra Daily? (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am wondering if anyone has taken more than 180 mg of Allegra daily and lived to tell about it?! Just kidding about that last part. I have a particularly bad case of post nasal drip and I DO get some relief from the 180. However, I am considering trying half a tab (90 mg) at night to get more relief. I KNOW what the recommendation is...I am just wondering. Has anyone tried it?

I would avoid the Zyrtec at all cost. My father was started on it for the insane itching. It seems you cannot stop it as it causes itching. Goggle it. I'd stay with the Allegra and the Zantac. My dear Dad passed in so much pain, equal to 3rd degree burns :(
I donot think its advisable. Even after taking Allegra 180 on daily basis, I feel excessive dryness and pain in cheeks. Try breathing exercises through yoga to get some relief.
Re: PC Beach (# 7)
I agree. No one is stating whether or not they are taking 24 hour tablets of any of the medications. And why do people keep talking about Zantac, isn’t that an antacid?
Re: Ho race (# 23)
I had to change to Claritin. My allergist told me to take up to 4 a day for the hives. Allegra just quit working. When Claritin stopped working I changed to Zyrtec. I only have to take 1-2 a day now.
Re: Debbie (# 10)
Take MONTICOPE A for allergy and skin rashes once at bedtime till the symptoms fades away. Repeat whenever its urgent.
Re: John (# 26)
It is also an H2 Antagonist, a type of histamine found in the stomach,
Re: John (# 26)
Allergist told me to take Zantac with my antihistamine as it helps it work better.
I have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome -- essentially allergies from hell on steroids. I take eight 180 mg Allegra and eight 1 mg ketotifen per day. Also four to six cromolyn sodium inhalation therapy per day. Plus albuterol inhalation and Ventolin as needed. Every couple of days I drop in a Sudafed. I've been doing this since October 2014 (almost four years) with no detectable side effects. Liver and kidney functions are completely normal and tested every three months. And yes, this is under the guidance of a MCAS specialist. Your mileage may vary.
Re: Michelle (# 18)
Pls take Monticpe A, once daily at bedtime for rashes and allergy. Also try yoga and breathing excercises.
I have Lyme and Morgellons disease. The itching is tomenting and everyday. I take 2 Allegra 180 mg a day. I sit here crying because I itch still. The Allegra still helps but after about 8 hours the itching starts again. I have lesion all over me also. I want to take an extra Allegra but am scared to. Dr. says only 2. Do I step out and get more relief by taking 3, 180mg Allegra? Does anyone take 3 Allegra 180 mg a day?
Re: Michelle (# 18)
Try taking Allegra twice a day and also take a Zantac. I've recently read studies where this has helped with hives. Allegra studies do not show toxicity in tests with mice or dogs at very very high dosages and it does appear that increased amounts are prescribed - up to 3 or 4 a day for your issue. Google it for yourself. Hope this helps!
Re: Mo r (# 9)
Me too 180mg four times a day , along with ranitadine 150mg twice a day for hives , I have been on this for three years with no side effects
Re: Ann (# 34)
I have the same thing you do and I am sitting here trying to find a reason to take 3 Allegra a day, I am itching so badly I am bleeding in many places.
Actually, if you're currently taking that much and still have post-nasal drip, then it's most likely time to try something else, rather than more of the Allegra.
What other allergy medications have you tried?
There are others on the market, some are available over the counter and some by prescription.
Have you talked to your doctor about it?
What are you allergic to?
Re: San Diego Mamma (# 12)
You can discuss with the reknowned homeopathic doctor Dr Prashanta Benarjee Kolkata India
When it comes to prescription medications, I wouldn't encourage anyone to take more than they are prescribed. I'm sure people have tried it, but there are numerous other natural options that can safely be used as an adjunct therapy to Allegra for additional relief.
Fresh garlic and raw local honey is a powerful allergy combination when taken together. Most people cringe at the thought of taking a bite out of a garlic clove, but it's really not that noticeable at all when you mix it with a tablespoon of honey. I get hours of relief when I do this, and am just sharing what works for me. Hopefully you can give this a try at some point to see how well it works for you without having to change up your dose of Allegra.
