Does Anyone Have Experience Taking More Than 180 Mg Of Allegra Daily? (Page 2)

I am wondering if anyone has taken more than 180 mg of Allegra daily and lived to tell about it?! Just kidding about that last part. I have a particularly bad case of post nasal drip and I DO get some relief from the 180. However, I am considering trying half a tab (90 mg) at night to get more relief. I KNOW what the recommendation is...I am just wondering. Has anyone tried it?

Did they ever find out what was causing your itch? I am in the same boat and we cannot figure out where the itch is coming from. They also thought it was good. That was determined to not be the case when I went to my allergist.

Ever thought about being Allergy skin tested to find out what you’re allergic to and then getting on immunotherapy for the cure??

I take 1 Allegra 180 (24 hr) in the morning, 1 ventidox dl (10 mg) In the evening and one Alaspan 10 mg for SOS case of rashes flaring up. I was still suffering & it seemed only partially in control since the last 2 years. I still felt inflamed every day. A new doctor today advises me to up the dosage to 2 allegra 180 in the morning and 2 at night. He said this will bring it under control within a month and maybe I could be on the road to recovery. Has taking 4 allegra reduced your urticaria symptoms or better still, is it under control? I haven't lived inflammation free since 2 years now and it's killing me!
I just asked poison control because I took two 180mg in a 5-6hour period and they said I'd be fine but I mighr just be really tired. Im 17 190lbs
My doctor, one of two leading specialists in the US on Angioedema has told me I can take up to 4x the recommended dose. So, up to 4 pill in 24 hours. I try to get by with 2, but in summer, for some reason, need to take 3-4 most of the time. I split it into two doses over the 24 hours. If I don't do this, I have severe swelling all over my body, which can include my face and tongue, so I really have no choice. I've been to every kind of doctor imaginable and even this leading specialist, who I had to get special permission from insurance to see, only said, "nobody knows what causes this". Geeze! I know what causes it, and can control it with diet, but it means eating virtually no fruits or veggies beyond pears, cabbage, and iceberg lettuce. I did this for about a year and felt so low energy, I finally went back to taking tons of Allegra and eating more or less normally.
Glad to read this. I just went to an allergist for my chronic uticaria and he told me to take 2 of the 180 twice a day. It seemed like an awful lot. have you had any adverse side effects?
My dermo put me on 3 a day. Scared to take it that much
I have taken fexofenidine for the last two years 180mg four times a day to try to control my urticaria , along with ranitidine 150mg four times a day and I am still here to tell the tale
I have been taking 2 of the 24 hour fexofenadine a day for over 4 years. I take them both in the morning. Occasionally I use Flonase also. My regular physician thought it was too much so he brought me back to 1 per day and Singular at night. After 30 days my allergies came back as bad as they were 4 years ago. I am back on the two 180mg of fexofenadine 24 hour relief per day. Take them every morning but I think you need to take them every day not just during allergy season!
On these replies I wish people would state whether they are taking the 12 hour or 24 hour Allegra (or the generic equivalent). I would like to take two-a-day of the 24 hour dose if it wouldn't do harm.
I've been on 2 Allegra a day for about 4 years. My allergist told me to take 2 a day every day not just during allergy season. My pulmunologist told me the same thing. It has worked wonders for me. Went to my Internist last month and he didn't think I should be taking that much so he put me on 1 Allegra & 1 prescription allergy med that I can't remember and after 30 days I'm right back where I was 4 years ago! Just took 2 Benadryl hoping I can sleep
Its ok im on 180mg of fexofenadine every day i get a bad itch went for tests thought i might have a food allaregy which i have the specilist told me to take 2 180mg of fexofenadine a day been taking 2 for over a year now every thing fine hope i help u cheerstam
I've been taking two pills every 24hr. I take one in the morning around 7:30 and another one around 10 pm and that's the only way it works. One a day spent work for me. So far I've been fine.
Allegra is the only one that has worked for me at all. I have tried OTC meds Zytrec, Claritin and the others. Nothing even touches the problem. This is an unusual condition for me (bad post nasal drip). It started right after I had my uvula removed in order to treat sleep apnea. I've had it for 3 1/2 years and this partial relief from Allegra is all I have gotten. (I also take Atrovent spray)
When it comes to prescription medications, I wouldn't encourage anyone to take more than they are prescribed. I'm sure people have tried it, but there are numerous other natural options that can safely be used as an adjunct therapy to Allegra for additional relief.
Fresh garlic and raw local honey is a powerful allergy combination when taken together. Most people cringe at the thought of taking a bite out of a garlic clove, but it's really not that noticeable at all when you mix it with a tablespoon of honey. I get hours of relief when I do this, and am just sharing what works for me. Hopefully you can give this a try at some point to see how well it works for you without having to change up your dose of Allegra.
Actually, if you're currently taking that much and still have post-nasal drip, then it's most likely time to try something else, rather than more of the Allegra.
What other allergy medications have you tried?
There are others on the market, some are available over the counter and some by prescription.
Have you talked to your doctor about it?
What are you allergic to?
