Does Pradaxa Cause Shortness Of Breath

I am in A Fib and have been for the past 7 months. My Doctor has tried different procedures but so far nothing has worked. Ever since I have been on Pradaxa I have been very short of breath. Even in a sitting position I am short of breath. I did not have this problem before. I don't know it it's the A fib or the Pradaxa, My Doctor doesn't know what is causing the problem. They have done a lot of testing. Has anyone had the same problem?
Re: greentrash (# 3)
You are wrong! Pradaxa is the only NOAC that DOES have a reversing agent called Praxbind. see https://www.praxbind.com
The sob caused by Pradaxa and xeralta can be a allergic reaction. Go back and refer to the insert that comes with the drug. It was referred to as severe allergic reaction. That is now what is put in my medical chart under allergies.
Re: greentrash (# 3)
As a matter of fact, Pradaxa is the ONLY NOAC for which there IS an antidote.
Re: Verwon (# 1)
When I started taking pradaxa for a-fib I got sob and chest pressure. C/o this to doctor who thought it was exacerbation of asthma. Finally put back on Coumadin. But the sob and chest pressure remained. Finally admitted to a hospital with a heart rate of 140. Cardio was added to IV along with the metoprolol I was already taking. Within a short period of time my heart rate was normal and no more sob or chest pressure. When I first was diagnosed with a-fib I was put on xarelta and taken off after one day co sob and chest pressure. I am now on Coumadin and doing fine. I will never again take anything but Coumadin as a blood thinner. Some people may do fine with the newer drugs but I did not.
When I started pradaxa due to a-fib. I started with sob. Even after stopping pradaxa over 2 years ago I still have sob.
I feel the opposite of what you are saying but in a round about way.
I have been experiencing shortness of breadth & getting winded fast. E.g. Bending down and tying my shoes can make huff and puff.
I also have AORTA STENOSIS which means my Aorta valve does not open all the way and will allow not all the blood thru the valve. AORTA STENOSIS WILL ALSO CAUSE SHORTNESS OF BREADTH.
Re: greentrash (# 3)
That is a interesting comment as my cardiologist recommended Pradaxa because it has a reversing agent! Looks like we both need to do some homework!!!
My dad was taking Warfin. Then changed to pradaxa. I noticed when I came to visit he can hardly do any thing with the shortness of breathe
I have the same breathless problem. I did have some shortness of breath previously but my Doctor noticed the breathlessness herself when I had an appointment to ask about a sore swelling in my neck. I had only been on the tablets for a few days. I had previously been on Clopidigrel.
I have been on Pradaxa for about two years, I too have had the breathing problems, but as my G.P. said it's a small price to pay for not having a stroke. He's right
I have been on pradaxa for over 2 years as I had breast reconstruction after my cancer treatment - I got bi lateral pulmonary embolisms post surgery, we couldn't get warfarin to work for me - levels were all over the place, but I am breathless too, I had a chest scan but they just think my clots have left scarring and this is causing it, but I do wonder now.
I have also noticed 3+ shortness 0f breath on Prodaxa. Was stopped and placed on Coumadin. Overnight shortness of breath disappeared. This convinced me there was a causal effect.
Susan, I am on Pradaxa also, however I think what is making me shortnof breath is the Metoprolol or the Diltiazem, or both that they have me on for AFIB. I had a stress test and they said my heart was healthy. Who knows? But check your meds. I cut the Metoprolol in half and it has helped with the shortness of breath.
Yes. I was taking xeltro first and felt great, I was switched to pradaxa, at my pharmacist advice, now I'm having shortness of breath. This is scary because that's how I found out I had blood clots in my lungs 11mo. Ago. My shortness of breath back then kept getting worst, after I was on xereltro for a couple months I was fine, now I'm having shortness of breath, I guess I'll have to get in touch w/my cardiologist.
I wish these doctors would listen to the patient when they tell them that they think the Pradaxa is causing them to be short of breath. When I told my doctor about all of these people that I read about on the internet that have the same provlem, he said "that's your main problem, stay off the internet". The first time I saw that Pradaxa could cause shortness of breath was on one of the best hospital wed sites in the U.S.
I take Xarelto for AFib and have had shortness of breath ever since. My cardiologist says the drug is not the cause. However I have no other medical problems and take no other medications so what else could it be?!!
I hate this drug because it has no antidote yet the dr refuses to switch me to Coumadin
Yes mamm, i have thge sme problem and I have been on Pradaxa for about 4 years, for AFIB. I don't care what the doctors say, I think itnwill cause shortnessnof breath. My AFIB is under control sonit has to be the Pradaxa. I even thinkI could come off the pradaxa since my AFIB hasn't acted up in months, but my regular doc and my heart doc say no. My doctor did ask me last week when I went in for my yearly check up, if I wasnshortnof breath when lying down. I said yes and she said since I had just had an Echo three months ago and everything looked good, to let her know if it keeps on and they will do another Echo. So even though it is agravating I don't think it is serious to be short winded. Hope this helps.

Yes. I am on Pradaxa and I have complained about shortness of breadth but my complaint is ignored. I have AF and scheduled for a pacemaker this week. I am also on two other medications that can cause shortness of breadth: Timolol and Cartia. I just looked these up myself on the Internet. I am seeing two heart specialists so they prescribed these drugs.. It doesn't seem right that I should be on three medications that can cause shortness of breadth, especially when that has been my main complaint. I am stopping the Timolol eye drops (for glaucoma) until after my surgery.
I was taken off Warfarin by my doctor and put on PRADAXA for the past 10 days
And feel shortness of breath it's alarming sometimes. I am seriously thinking of asking my doctor to take me off PRADAXA asap
