Does Miralax Raise Blood Pressure (Page 3)
UpdatedI've never had a blood pressure issue and since taking MiraLAX for a week for constipation my lood pressure was 166/104! Could it be the MiraLAX?
Re: Rhondajr51 (# 35)
The last time I checked, it is not listed as a side effect but it definitely raised my BP and many of my friends. Doctors don’t believe it when it isn’t listed.
I’m so glad I found this thread. Showed up for my colonoscopy today and my BP was so high that they couldn’t perform the procedure. At one point was 220/120. A week prior, at the dentist, it was around 150/80 (still not great, but much lower). They strongly suggested I go to the ER, so I did that and was prescribed BP meds. Hoping that once the Miralax gets out of my system we’ll see a decrease back to normal range. The dose I was prescribed for my prep was 15 doses yesterday (about 8.3 oz) mixed with Gatorade and then another 4 doses this morning before the procedure. Very scary.
This just happened to me. I have an aneurysm so must closely watch my BP and it has been around 110/70 for weeks. I took one packet of Miralax and 2 hours later it was 150/90! It was high for the next 48 hours (topped at 170/90 one morning, very scary!) and is finally coming down today. I will never take a PEG-3350 medication again. BP this high could rupture my aneurysm. I wish more doctors knew about the possibility of dangerously high BP from this substance.

Did your BP go back down? If so, how long did it take? Mine is still messed up!
Re: NorthernLiz (# 44)
A follow-up to this: My BP finally came down after 8 days, and with it the constipation came back. After getting badly bloated and plugged up again I took 1 Senokot in the evening.
2 hours later my BP went up 25 points and continued to be high all the next day (while the laxative worked). It topped out at 160/89. Finally the day after that (today) it came down again (so far).
I am newly on metoprolol, a beta blocker, and never had constipation issues until I was on it. Since I've now experienced a significant rise on 2 different laxatives of 2 different types (osmotic and stimulant) I am thinking now that it is some interaction with the beta blocker and the bowel signaling causing this and not the laxative itself.
5 years ago I used a PEG-based colonoscopy prep that I had no issues with. I wasn't on BP meds at the time nor a beta blocker.
I would be very interested in hearing if anyone else having this issue was also on a beta blocker and if so, which one.
Yes, this happens to my family member every time they take it. Feels like crap and bp goes up despite being well controlled on a couple of different meds! No doubt it's the Miralax. It needs a warning - there are enough comments here to confirm it is not a super rare side effect in women over 60!
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Raised mine as well. After I finished with a bm x 3 it went back to normal
Re: John (# 42)
I did the same pre colonoscopy prep. Couldn’t figure out why I was getting a pounding headache and flushing. My BP is usually 118/60, but it went up to 165/90! Glad I found this forum, now I know it was the Miralax! Hoping it goes back down after the procedure tomorrow
Re: John (# 42)
I just went through the same thing. l did the prep on Tuesday & Wednesday. I went to get the procedure and they sent me home. My BP went from 140/75 to 210/110. So I prepped for nothing. My BP is still high at 175/99 and I’m waiting for my cardiologist to call me back.
Re: Tony (# 49)
They like to use this prep because it’s Gentle, but I can’t do it either. The volume of it makes me vomit it all up and then it doesn’t work. When I can try again they told me to ask for a specific prep they will note in my file (I don’t remember the name) I guess it’s the equivalent of a shot or two but it tastes really gross. I don’t really care how it tastes if it’s only two swallows, vomiting up all that MiraLAX and Gatorade tasted pretty gross and I didn’t even get to have the procedure so . . .
Re: Medical Mess (# 5)
Yes made my BP go up . Didn’t finish taking it for my colonoscopy , which I cancelled.
Re: Linda (# 48)
My BP has been high 187/101 and usually runs 115/65. Been to heat Dr and primary care provider. Each time they changed my BP pill frequency with no positive results. Stopped Miralax and bingo, BP went down after a week!
