Does Diclofenac Have Sulfa In It
UpdatedIs there Sulfa in Diclofenac and will it have an effect on my Sulfa allergies?

I also have a sulfa allergy and have taken diclofenac with no problem.
@Nancy,
Just to confirm, Diclofenac Sodium is not a sulfa-based drug; but rather a 'sodium salt'. So my understanding is in line with Karen's (post #1) in that you shouldn't experience any problems relating to a sulfa allergy.

As to the inactive ingredients, one would have to know the imprint on the pill to determine if other binders/fillers could potentially be a culprit as well. However, if you do have a known allergy, I would just be sure to communicate this to the doctor and/or pharmacist whenever you go to get a new prescription... that way you can be certain that whatever it is you're taking is safe.
Hope this helps!
The pharmacist told me sulfa drugs and diclofenac are structurally similar enough that diclofenac can create problems for people who react to sulfa-related drugs.
Re: Deb (# 3)
I was prescribed diclofenac and I am allergic to sulfa drugs, and I broke out in hives while taking it. No more for me!
The other thing I found out is that I was prescribed Celebrex, and Vioxx a long time back by a doctor at UCLA, and I broke out in a severe case of hives which required steroids and other drugs to get control of them. It was terrible. Just recently when I was prescribed Diclofenac for pain, the Pharmacist advised me about this drug and that I might have an allergic reaction to it. He's right because now I need another drug to get the hives and itching under control. He told me that Celebrex has a sulfa ingredient that is why I suffered so severely with taking it. People have to be really careful, even the doctor's aren't sure in the ingredients in these pills that they are prescribing to their patient's.
Re: N2LIF4U (# 5)
Diclofenic is a strong drug and should be used wisely, believe it or not there have been overdoses with this drug as it is a form off muscle relaxent, and the people that have died using this drug have od because of taking to many so watch the amount u take as there is a risk factor to this drug if abused!!
Re: karen (# 1)
Sometimes it's not the drug that is the problem, u might have an underlying health problem that is why the drug is bringing you out in hives, this happened to me but with another drug, and it wasn't the drug it was the underlying health issue I didn't no about that brought me out in the hives when taking it, so it might be something else, not trying to scare you just giving u input into what happened when I came out in hives with another drug.
Re: N2LIF4U (# 5)
I too broke out in hives after taking for only one dose! Please be careful taking this if you have reactions to sulfa related drugs!
Re: David (# 2)
I’m highly allergic to sulfa even epsom salt. Sulfa drugs will close my throat up almost immediately so I am very worried about using this cream.
Re: N2LIF4U (# 5)
When I was prescribed Celebrix for my fibro, it worked on the pain but I couldn't breathe and I puffed up 15 pounds. My doctor took me off it immediately and said I was allergic to the sulfur in it. As soon as I quit it (before contacting my dr), I dropped the 15 pounds and my breathing improved.
