Does Anyone Know Of A Good Pain Management Dr In N Penna
UpdatedFor the last 18 months I have seen a Pain Management Dr. in Pittsburgh Pa. I really like him. When I first started seeing him, I was on Methadone 30mg 3x a day. But had been on it for the last 6 yrs, so it really wasn't working all that great. In Sept. he put me on Opana 40mg 2 x a day. And it kind of helped. But when they changed its composition, it started to make me throw up. So, my Dr. put me on Morphine Sulfate 60mg 2 x a day. At first it caused severe vomiting. So I called him up, and told the nurse, and told her also that I dumped the bottle down the toilet, because I thought, this stuff, is nasty. He refused to write me a different script, and told me to come in as soon as I could get an appointment. Well, a week had gone by, and I was fishing around in my purse for some Neurotin, and came upon a bottle I normally keep my pain meds in. I opened the bottle and realized I put half of the Morphine in it. So I started to take them again. But I am not vomiting anymore. But having other side effects. I am afraid to mention anything additional to him, because he thinks I am now lying to him. Since the nurse told me to find myself another Dr., now I am thinking he doesn't trust me anymore. He is 90 minutes south(In Pittsburgh Pa) of my home, but pain management Dr.s are really hard to come by. I need someone, that really cares, and realizes that not all drugs are created equal, and would understand when a new pain medicine might create problems.

I am very sorry that you are suffering, that is just so awful.
However, I think the main issue comes from the fact that you disposed of the medication, before contacting the doctor to see if a solution was available.
Learn more Morphine details here.
There are both prescription and over the counter products that could be tried to help prevent the nausea and vomiting, so you should have contacted the doctor first.
And Neurontin will not work to relieve pain fast, like actual analgesics do, for it to have any effect, it needs to be taken regularly for a long period of time.
Learn more Neurontin details here.
As to a new doctor, the only thing I can really suggest is that you contact the social work department at a nearby hospital and see if they can make any suggestions. I know from experience that finding a pain management doctor in PA, who actually treats with medications, rather than therapy and injections is very difficult. Most of them will not do that.
Does anyone else have any suggestions to add?
What doctor have you been seeing in Pittsburgh, I live there and I get really bad migraines. My doctor had me on MS Contin and he died now I cannot find a doctor to prescribe me any. I know your looking for a new doctor, but maybe your old one could help me.

Actually, I never went to see him. Dr Zang Wang, but I hear he is compassionate. I think if the DR. I am seeing now, falls thru after a time, because they all do, I will probably go and see him. But if you still want to talk, via email, I would love to talk to someone who knows my pain. As I would know yours too. If I can be of any help at all.

To bad they don't have a live chat so people could talk amongst themselves.
