The doctor at the pain clinic that I have just started going to has given me 15mg of OxyContin 2x per day with 10mg of oxycodone 3x per day. I had been taking at least 6 10mg of oxycodone a day from my neurologist. I have ran out of the oxycodone and the OxyContin doesn't seem to help me. How does the OxyContin work? Is 15mg OxyContin a common time release med to help severe chronic pain?

Yes, Oxycontin is a time released formulation, the medication is slowly released over a period of 12 hours, so it will not affect you the same as the regular release formulation.
The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
