Documenting Daily Prolia Side Effects
UpdatedI am a 57 year old female who has -2.5 bone density scores on hips and -3.4 in the spine. I used Forteo for 2 years, but because I was scared to death to try any of the biophosphates and Prolia - I lost the benefit from Forteo. It was minimal improvement at best. I had 3 different doctors in 3 different cities tell me that I should use Prolia. I had the injection on Friday, April 11th. I had put the shot off for 6 months after my pharmacy delivered it to the doctor office due to fear and all the forums. So -- if anyone wants to know information, I will keep you posted.
Since yesterday, I have had itching in a variety of places and I had a tough time falling asleep last night. I also have some minor cramping in my calves and thighs. So far this is bearable, but I am trusting God to get me through the rest of the days the shot remains in my system.
I had a freak tibia-plateau fracture 4 years ago which led to the discovery of my severe osteoporosis. There is a genetic link as my Mother has been disabled for the last 10 years after a total of 8 major breaks and a hip replacement. I also did not watch my diet as I consumed way too many sodas. Since the break, I have changed my diet and worked out with weights and walking 3 days a week. I had hoped those two things would have helped my bone density, but it did not.

Took my first Prolia injection 2 months ago. The first month I noticed no difference but now my face is breaking out. No matter what I do the breakouts, which appear to be a hybrid of red bumps and small swollen spots, do not go away, I am making an appointment with my dermatologist for next week but I'm afraid once this is in your system there is nothing that will improve the condition. Has anyone else out there gone from a clear complexion to red bumps and raised patches on face. If you found anything that helped I would be very grateful to know.
Sorry to hear about your challenging experiences with Prolia.
From what I've been reading online, this particular medication can cause a number of undesirable side effects, including but not limited to: blisters, dry, red, itchy, or peeling skin; muscle cramps, pain, etc...

I hope this helps explain some of the skin related issues you might've been experiencing lately. How long are you supposed to be taking the Prolia for?
I am in a similar situation, having taken Forteo, and lost all the gains.
I had my first Prolia shot a week ago, and am having some second thoughts after reading these forums.
Could you please tell me how you have done since April? Did you get a second shot in Oct?
I only had several weeks of rashes, but I did experience hair loss and my Gerd symptoms worsened. I did not have a second shot based on my doctor. He told me that he was unsure if the Prolia caused the rash, but he felt the shot could be harmful. He wants me to now do Reclast which I have not done. The bone density test that I had in August showed more bone loss. So the Prolia really did not help a great deal. If it had helped, i would have pushed for the Prolia because I could handle the side effects.
I do hope whatever you try next will raise your bone mass!! I do not want to use the biophosphates, but I may have to do that in the future.
I've been on prolia about 3 or 4 years but my last injected 4 months ago I hear my heart beat in my head loud when I'm in bed & cannot sleep I m a man now fifty has.osteoporosis more than twenty years because of major eating disorder I've lived on sweets soda &juice since i was fifteen I have many other medical problems I'm very suicidal I'm suffering daily I really believe I'm better off dead
Bisphosphonates have minor side effects. I took them for the maximum amount of time allowed. Never had a problem. Wish I could still take them.
Check with doctor.
Hang in there James. I have severe osteoporosis and have shrunk from 5'8 1/2" down to 5'1". I look like a turtle with the big hump on my back. The Prolia causes severe diarrhea and probably the hair loss I am experiencing. I will NOT take another Prolia shot. I am done. Doc says to try Forteo but I really don't want to do daily injections! Keep reading all the blogs you can find. Eventually a SMART LAWYER will sue for all of us and put the company that gave us this poison out of business! They will have to pay big time. That, alone, is worth hanging for. All the best.
Charlie the only thing that helps is steroids. But the prolia is in your system for many months, so i take oatmeal baths and use cbd oil layered with grapeseed oil then lotion. The rash conmes and goes un significance and moves to different areas of the body. For me my skin has become very dry, and leathery. Pkease pist your progression.
You're a fool you're rather walk around with that hump you don't say how long you taken prolia or if you had the hump. Prior to prolia if my spine was any worse scoliostic I'd rather die sounds your comment FOOLISH
Hi, Would you mind telling me what the results from your DEXA bone density scan was before your dramatic loss in height? Thanks! I'm 55 yrs old & just found out I have a stress fracture on my fibula 6 weeks ago, never hurt my leg & didn't fall! Didn't know I had fractured my leg, and continued to work for 2 weeks with the fracture. I've just been newly diagnosed with severe osteoporosis & had my first Prolia shot 12 days ago! T-score of -4.6!
I had a prolia Injection 2 months ago..l won't have another one! My blood pressure dropped and my ankles swelled which have only just gone down and my blood pressure is slowly rising again. Went to see rheumatolagy nurse and gp as it was something that you were supposed to go to a&e with. Iwas told l had had a bad reaction to it and take regular paracetamol. Sinus problem has worsened, have felt generally unwell like a rheumatoid flare. I have RA..not felt as bad for a long time. Feeling better now but l won't be having another injection.
Did the injections help I am scared to start also but have such low density at 55 I don't know what to do
Oh gee, look, another thread about osteoporosis medication. None of it works! God made bones. Doctor's can't. It is what it is. My mother is only 64 next month and she has the worst osteoporosis doctor's have ever seen. She may as well be 94. There is nothing they can do except take your money.
Re: Mason (# 13)
Sorry for you.
Osteo most often is GENETIC.
The sodas are deadly for bones. An in law family with 5 children had their own refrigerator to supply the kids with Coco Cola. There were 11 bone breaks over their childhood with all involved to a varying degree.
