Dear friends... I'm 47 years old and I live in NJ ...I have a very painful disease called Crohn's disease since 10 years old ...I have had Multiple bowel resections...currently another awful stricture again..blood counts as low as 6.9 and painful arthritis, etc... I'm in pain all the time ..the medications they Give for crohns are dangerous and don't work for me not to mention extremely dangerous for someone with a stricture... I'm so upset of how pain management has changed...I get some help but since things have changed it so difficult to be properly managed and not treated like a drug addict... My dad and his two brothers died of crohns and I have lost my mom to a mistake made during a simple hernia surgery...they just want to keep cutting rather than help my pain when the disease for me comes right back after surgery and the more issues come from another surgery...my pain management dr said maybe I should just get all my intestines removed...really??? What an option because everyone is afraid to prescribe anymore ...he said he's afraid too because if he prescribes anything reasonable his license is at risk...btw besides pain meds helping me to function and survive there are studies that show it actually helps crohns and other diseases medically!!! I bet you all didn't know that...for me it works on the immune system in a way that it helps to regulate it...you can goggle it if you want...fabulous for people with bad arthritis etc... On the other hand I do believe it should be prescribed for people who really need it and carefully managed and used within reason... It's just gotten so bad... I never had a problem until recently...now it's almost impossible to get help and if you try another dr. It's called dr. Shopping ... Why can't we see as many as we need until we find one that will help and understands... It all makes no sense to me and its horrible to let people suffer.. Almost all medications you take you can't just stop..it's not just pain meds... I wish I could find a dr who isn't afraid or will fight back for us!!!! This was never a problem for me until last year.. Please folks let's fight back .... any suggestions appreciated...

Everybody
People looking for doctors,
Runt in Bay City TX, Loner in Tyler TX, Does anyone have any ideas how they can find a doctor there? How did you find your doctor? Any ideas to help them at all?
I'm not much help because I had a friend who got me into the doctor I'm seeing. If I didn't have that friend, I really don't know what I would have done.

Kathy
What part of the country are you in?

So sorry to hear about your disc. Many of us who post here, have chronic pain conditions and don't expect to ever get well or expect to ever be totally pain free. I know it probably isn't much help to know that you aren't alone in what you face, but I do hope it is some comfort. We all truly understand what daily pain is like and the problems the pain can cause you, all on it's own. It really is a lot to face every day. We are all here for you, to listen when you need it.

I don't know the answer to helping you find a pain management doctor, but asked everyone to chip in with ideas. What part of the country are you in?

Before medication was added to my pain management, I did all the things that I'm sure you have tried. On some really high pain days, I still add those little things. Yesterday I tried my TENS machine. It did help some, but I have to be careful how much I use it, cause it can trigger my fibromyalgia, which then I have the combination of everything hurting.
You can try the warm showers, heating pad, Ben Gay, icing and all that sort of thing, they sometimes help a little. I'm sure none of it will help much, without an actual pain management program that works for you in place, but hopefully the little things can provide you with some relief, until you find a doctor.
Again, we are all here for you, when you need people who will listen.

Sorry to hear that you are still in pain, I was hoping that when you said you had weaned yourself off your pain medication, that you were feeling lots better. I have a friend who weans himself off every once in awhile. He does that so that he doesn't have to ask for an increase in his pain medication, as he gets a tolerance and it doesn't work as well. Then he starts over, but the pain medication works better for him again.
I agree completely that the federal government has taken too much power away from the individual states. The Constitution gave a few powers and responsibilities to the federal government and gave the rest to each State. Somehow Congress and the White House have slowly taken away the rights of each State. You are also right that we are in danger with this situation, and people don't even see it.

I served years on active duty and then years on active reserves. But that doesn't seem to matter to anyone but me. Recently I got a call from a sub contractor who was representing the VA, checking to see if I was receiving any assistance from VA. Nope. The local VA representative had told me I wasn't entitled to anything, so I got by without their help. Got a letter from VA saying that I am entitled to benefits, but it didn't say what sort of benefits or who to contact. I figure someone will get around to sending another letter or may be a phone call LOL

What happened with the neighbor and court thing? Did you get a way to fix the swamp cooler yet? How is your ex doing? OK girl, fill me in LOL
How is your pain level doing? I have had a few "bad" days in a row, but I think it's my own fault. I think I was pushing too hard since about Weds of last week, so am now paying for it.
Another crazy thing to add to my saga list LOL. I applied in May for the Supplemental Low Income help thing on the Medicare website. I was approved. Got a letter that said so. I also helped a few other people apply for the SLI thing. They were approved also. They have all received a refund of the premium that they were paying for Medicare (the $100 something), anyway that portion is controlled by the State. I have less income than any of the people I helped, but I did not get approval for that portion. So I contacted the Social Services people who are running the State portion of the program to find out why. The State computer has me listed as a disabled person but also has me listed as a working person, with no listing of where I work and no listing of how much I am suppose to be earning Oh My Goodness!! Case worker called me back and said that the problem had been corrected and I am now approved and will be receiving a letter saying that. So far no letter, and Medicare took my $100 plus premium out of this month check again. $100 is a lot of money to me.
Don't know if you saw the post, but my prescription saga did go well this month, and I have regular non poison oxycodone 10mg and my Opana ER, so this month will have pain control, if nothing else goes right LOL

Veteran,
I was reading your post to Linnetta, and agree with you that the system is screwed up. I don't believe for one moment that the DEA wants to stop illegal drug use. I think there is too much job security in the way it works now. If they stop it, they are out of a job. DEA can impose rules on pharmacies and doctors, which are what I call "feel good" rules, so that they can say to the public, look at what we are doing to stop illegal drug usage. The pharmacies and doctors are not the biggest part of illegal drug usage. It's just an easy out for DEA, rather than admitting that they are doing nothing but wasting billions of taxpayers dollars. FDA has been taking the easy way out for a long time now too, with their rules and regulations. It's really easy to impose rules on law abiding citizens, so that's what they've been doing. Their excuse for all their mistakes and lack of action is "we do that to stop drug abuse". Bull S!!

There are "specials" on TV that show the drug mill doctors operating in FL and some of the other states, that are cash only, no medical records required, hundreds of dollars cost per office visit and you can walk out with a prescription for oxycodone 80mg for 180 and more pills. DEA show how they have all this on tape, and have been investigating it for 2 or more years. OK, so why are these pill mills still in business? Why do you need 2 years of video tape to take it to court? It only takes 1 illegal buy of $25 to arrest a street dealer, so why 2 years to shut that sort of crap down? They showed a tape of a drug dealer in NY City that they had been following for nearly 6 years, but couldn't find him doing anything illegal. Well, if after several months you can't find the guy doing anything illegal, move on!! How can you actually justify following one guy for 6 years and you have nothing on him.

This website is also full of questions from people who are taking prescription pills illegally and are worried about passing a drug panel, so that says there is a problem with illegal prescription use, which makes it hard for the legitimate chronic pain patient. As it's so easy for DEA to target us, rather than the drug cartels who are bringing in millions and millions of dollars worth of meth and H, that's what they do. We are the easy target. I think that meth and H should be legalized and sold just like a liquor store sells liquor. Prohibition is what made Al Capone rich and gave the mafia it's huge start in the US. Legalize all the drugs, 21 years old to purchase, the customer knows what they are buying, you put the drug cartels out of business, and you cut down on all the street dealers violence, chronic pain patients can get their medications, pharmacies will have less paperwork, everything easier. Give the DEA jobs enforcing the rules at the new "Meth" stores, checking IDs to be sure people are really 21. Yes you will have drug addicts, but you have them now. Free up the drug convictions, let those guys out of prison. If you steal or break a law to support your drug habit, we send you to prison, cause we now have room for you.

Ty for this info. As long as I stay w my present Dr., she will attempt to get me off my oxy, which I have been for 6 yes now. Yet she'll let me have morphine -she " believes in them"!!! Am allergic to acetaminophen, but she prob won't even pay attention to that fact.
Feel like a drug addict just asking for help for severe chronic pain due to bone spurs on my vertebrae.

Njshorecrohns,
OH My Goodness! Crohn's!!! I am so sorry. I have one friend who has Crohn's and he has suffered so much and is fighting a constant battle. You used (or they did when edited) an abbreviation of "btw besides pain meds", I don't know what "btw" is, could you explain? Thanks

We all know exactly what you are saying about finding a compassionate and understanding doctor. That seems to be a problem all over the US now and you are right, it wasn't this way a couple of years ago. Many of us are having problems with receiving our pain medications too.

If you would go back over this thread, it may be several pages for you to find it, Marianne has provided information on a petition that she put together relating to chronic patients treatment, and all signatures are important. She also provided information on the president's "front porch", so that you can make the White House aware of what you are suffering.
Most of us believe too, that it's going to take "numbers" to bring about any change in policy. The "policy" is what is scaring the Bee Jesus out of the doctors and some of the pharmacies. It's really sort of silly, because as long as a doctor isn't prescribing without proper medical records and diagnostics, they have nothing to fear. If the DEA or FDA gets bored enough, they may take a look at some doctor's records, somewhere, and it's very doubtful that they would take the time. Even if they did take the time to check on a particular doctor, as long as the doctor did the job the right way, all the records will support that and no medical license would be in jeopardy. Just another example of them taking the easy road, by targeting the law abiding instead of addressing the true problem of illegal use.

"Doctor Shopping"!! What a joke, just like the "Pharmacy Shopping" crap. Why in the world should anyone be stuck with a doctor who isn't helping them, who they don't relate to, or who they don't feel comfortable with? No one is saying you have to stick with an auto mechanic who doesn't fix your car properly, but something as important and personal as your health care, is being dictated to you. HOW SILLY.

WOW Morphine instead of oxycodone !! That seems like a huge jump. Did the doctor say why morphine is better than oxy?

Hope someone from your area has gotten back to you. If not, try clicking on the live feed portion and you may find someone posting who is near you, who can help with the info.
Read that tramadol is being taken of the market, so maybe you don't have to worry about them sticking you with that.

Hi Co Susie,
I'm sorry, I haven't been on. My coolers are shot and am waiting for a son in-law to come and plug up a hole in the one that leaked. It's been just too hot, in my house to be on my laptop.

I won the court incident, as she lied through her teeth, to the judge, accusing me of many things I can't and didn't do. She called me, "Mrs. Cravetz," in front of the judge, claiming I watch everything she does. But, in reality, I can't look out my windows, be on my porch or in my gardens, without her coming out and scowling at me. I was minding my own business, sweeping my walkway, then rested a bit, looking at a rose I have. She suddenly appeared, when I thought she was in her house and it was safe for me to be out. She thought I was looking at her, so she screamed over, "What are you looking at!" Now, she has her sister visiting, a Walmart friend, whom she worked with and her daughter, all coming into the yard, keeping me from mine. I just caught her sister out, with a flashlight, looking into my open windows. I had to close my drapes, keeping the cool air out, for privacy. I have the neighbor from "Hell" living next to me. I have no other challenges with my others, always tried to help them out. This one, has made my life miserable since she moved in.

This stress is adding to my demise. I am having attacks, from my spine, around to my rib cage, to the center of my chest. I don't know if it is my heart, but take my nitro, when it happens, along with a left over morphine, for the pain. I hate to take the morphine, because of trying to be off of it, but the pain is too horrible to express. Now, I will have to wait longer, before seeing a doctor, again. I really don't know if there are any that will help me again. I am hoping those meds, you are taking are working for you. I am writing them down, on "Notepad" and when I see a doctor, maybe he will prescribe those to me, if they will help. Please, let me know, from time to time, if they still work for you, dear. In the meantime, I wish you and yours the very best and may GOD bless everyone on this site...

Always,
Marianne

Right now,I'm losing my ability to function.I'm hurting,I can't sleep,my legs jump,I feel as though I'm being electrocuted throughout my body.I made the mistake of going to civilian hospital, they treated me like a street s***. I am so sorry for your problems with the neighbor. I've never had problems as bad as you, but there were neighbors that I wondered if they were even sane, cause they seem to be "after me" for no reason. People who haven't had the "neighbor issue" don't understand how even seeing that person can bother you so much. You have all "legal" rights to your own yard, garden, walkway, porch, but when a neighbor is treating you that way, it takes the pleasure out of it.
