Ok so I found a new pain clinic to take me and have an appt this Thurs. I am on a 7 day detox diet to try to drop a few lbs before going to the beach next weekend and kinda concerned that this new Dr may drug test me being that it's my first appt with him. My question is do you think my reg prescribed drugs will show up in a drug test? I take as prescribed but was kicked out of my last pain clinic due to my levels being low, which I had told that Dr that I had my grand daughter the last 5 days before he tested me and I can't take my meds as prescribed when I have her in case there is an emergency and I have to drive. So the days I have her I only take my meds at night after she leaves. So should I double up on my meds the night before or just explain to the new Dr that I am on a detox diet??? Any help will be appreciated...
Hi, don't ever double up on your pain meds. Your lucky, that you can go without when your taking care of your greandaughter. I would give anything if I didn't have to take them everyday. Youe very lucky.
Jan, I have no choice but to go with out when I have my grand daughter because I would not want to put her life in danger. It doesn't mean i'm not in pain because I am, I broke my neck 11 years ago and have had 4 neck surgeries in an attempt to repair it, I have degenerative disc disease and have had 4 lumbar fusions the last 2 being 8 weeks ago. If I don't have my grand daughter I can take my meds as prescribed and do. But i only have my grand daughter a few days every other week so I def pay for not taking them when she is here and usualy end up bed ridden the week that I don't keep her. So it is far from being a matter of I can go with out my meds it's a matter of weather I want to risk her life or be in pain and would choose pain any day over risking her getting hurt because I was taking my meds....
Can a doctor with d.o behind his name write for narcotics?
Paul Collins, I just had a Dr w/ DO after there name write me a months worth of my pain meds to bridge me til I can get in with a new pain clinic... Still not even sure what a DO is..lol
@Phil Colins Decided to look it up after my last post and this is what I found..
D.O. stands for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, the degree awarded to graduates of osteopathic medical schools. In the United States, physicians can have either the M.D. or D.O. degree. Both physicians have identical practice rights, and have nearly identical training except for additional training in the musculoskeletal system for graduates of osteopathic medicine schools. In practice, many D.O's are indistinguishable from their M.D. colleagues. D.O's train in many of the same residencies and practice side-by-side in the same hospitals. You may have been treated in the past by a D.O. and never even knew it.
Outside the United States, the D.O. degree is awarded to practitioners who use manipulation as their primary treatment modality. In this way, they are similar to chiropractors (D.C.) in the United States. This can create confusion regarding the qualifications of osteopathic physicians in other countries; however, a growing number of countries now recognize the D.O. degree awarded in the United States as that of a physician and grant its holders full practice rights.
I am seeking a dr to prescribe me pain meds in Washington State and it sounds like it's quite an issue. I have degenerative arthritis in my back and take vicodan for it and sometime oxycodone. Anyone have any ideas on this? Please help! Thank you :)
Hi, You are SO right! Especially those of us who are new to this whole thing. My twin brother and I (just turned 48) were both diagnosed with back/spine issues at the same time a couple of years ago. Mine is DDD with arthritis, his is sciatica (for now). We both have such trouble with finding relief from our pain at times that we talk about it often. I have learned very quickly the laws being implemented every day state-by-state against prescribing due to folks over dosing due to poor monitoring or the patients themselves, who knows? I am nurse by trade and have a law degree. I am fascinated by these posts for folks that really have no safety net when they are in pain, but no one is there to catch them. For whatever the reason I saw your post and had to respond. Hope I haven't bored you with my book...lol!
Yes they will show up on a drug test but as long as you have a valid script and let them know before hand it will not matter. I have to take a drug test for my job 2 or 3 times a year and they test for 12 drugs, I always pass 11 and joke with my boss everytime, "I studied real hard but still failed the same part of the test." I work in construction and drive a work truck, I take 8 to 12 hydrocodone 20/80 compunded a day but have been taking them for so long that while it blocks the pain I do not get the head high. The reason I can take so much is because they compund them to have less tylenol, it is not the pain medicine that hurts you it is the tylenol or acetemediphine which is why with 10/500 or 10/650 they will not give you more then QID a day, but because I have mine compounded to 20 mg of hydo and only 80 of the tylenol I can take up to 12 a day if needed. All doctors wil tell you not to drive or use machinary but they have to tell you that, it is usually until you know how the medication will effect you, but never double up on it/
yes where are you in Washington ?
I've live with severe pain after a roll over car accident and was told that I would not walk again that i had suffered a t8,t9 compression fx and had already had a old back injury.I'm very desperate and had been told 2 times that i would not walk again.well it's been 10 years ago and I'm walking but with many limitations and 24x7 pain and have tolerated with the least of pain meds as possible. now after I worked so hard with therapy and came so far they want to take away my meds that allow some quality to my life at 50 yrs. old and my love is my grandchildren and to think I may not be able to enjoy my family it's real shame. where are the caring good ole doctors that do what they want in times of need?
Hi Katy! West side of state by Tacoma. Any help appreciated.
Thanks so much!
I was just looking around and ran across this site. I have RSD and I don't see any posts from folks who have it. Anyway, there is a pain scale out there which rates it as a 42 on a scale of 1-50 and 42 is the highest anything rates, even higher than having a baby without any meds to you ladies who know that pain. It never goes away and feels like my leg is on fire and a red hot iron is sticking up thru the foot up. Really painful. I went from 1988 until I was finally dx/d in 1996 before getting any pain meds. Finally a neurologist dx'd me withing 5 minutes of seeing me. I take methadone 200 mgs daily and 30 mg of oxycodone every 3-4 hrs. for breakthru pain. Any questions, please write.
Ok today was my first visit at the britton center. They are rude there, I have fibromyalgia and have been on norco 7.5/325mg for over 2 years. They told me since i am 26 years old i should be healthy and shouldnt need it blah blah blah. I am tired of doctors going by the book all the time and They also do drug testing everytime so they know what your taking. They told me that fibromyalgia is not treated with norco. It has helped me for 2 years, just because i am young dont treat me any differently. OH BY THE WAY DONT SCHEDULE ANYTHING THAT DAY IT TAKES FOREVER TO BE SEEN LIKE AN HOUR AFTER YOUR APPT TIME. But if your a crack head you can get meds i here, so thanks for ruining it for people that are truly in pain. Everyone pain is different, and every individual is different as well.
I'm in Tallahassee, Florida where our new governor calls it the state of pill mills he has scared our doctors and pharmacist of loosing their license. He does not know anything about pain and has started many lawsuits and many people to suffer that is not necessary. Florida is now is worse than ever as far as drugs on the streets also more pain clinics on every corner. we will be glacd to see him go he must have been a drug addict himself.
Hey Elkey, im in the same sittuation and i live in cleveland, ohio if we can talk privatly i would appreciate it i would like to get a name as well please let me know..... Thank u
What city and state are you from?
brittonsucks. I agree with your cmment Drs now a day are ridiculous i was diagnosed with fibro years aga along with RA and Sle, sciatica, and 2 herniated discs and it is so hard to find a good dr not just a dr that gives you meds but actually cares about keeping you out of pain. there are so many drug addicts in my city its not funny, and thats why its so hard for people who actually need to se a PM Dr to get any results at all. your age shouldnt play a role in how your pain is diagnosed thats ridiclus, but i have the same problem even with documentation multi testing its just so messed up and really starting to piss me off. It's pry easier for people to buy them off the streets but actual patients in pain shouldnt have to go thru that!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet that the people that are selling them on the streets are the people making up BS reason to see a PM Dr to get pills to sell, but they dont have a problem!!!! BULLSH**
