At this time, it is being investigated for treating pain, but it hasn't been approved for it, yet. It is, however, available over the counter in some products as cold remedies.

If you want it prescribed by a doctor for pain, you may need to see a specialist that knows specifics of pain management and how/why it can help.

Do you currently have a PCP that could refer you to someone?

What is your general location? That information might enable someone to recommend a good doctor in your area.

Dextromethorphan is most commonly used to relieve coughing and it may cause side effects, such a nausea, dizziness, constipation and confusion.
