Doctors In Louisiana That Prescribe Methadone For Chronic Pain (Page 2)

I have been taking 120 mg of methadone for approximately 5 years. My husbands job transferred us from Florida to Louisiana where I found a pretty good pain doc. He is now running scared and wants to take me off of methadone. Methadone has given me a good quality of life; I am able to work and be a productive member of society. My doctor is unwilling or unable to assist me in finding a new doctor who will continue my meds. Oh yeah, I have been the route of blocks and injections and gotten little if any relief. I'm tired of being branded a drug seeker-I have years of medical records that back up my claims and verify the dosages that I've been on-what drug seekers have this kind of back up? I am looking for a Louisiana doctor, but am willing to travel (within reason of course). Please help!!
Mary, I only want to suggest you ask for the oxycodone without aspirin or tylenol. Being on methadone for years, most pain meds don't work. I was in the hospital and they gave me the oxy without the aspirin or tylenol (aka quick release) and for the first time I found relief. Nothing else would touch it. The down fall, as you all know, is trying to get the narcotic regularly is almost impossible. The upside is that you may take less.
James B, if you have Louisiana Medicaid, it will not pay for a Pain Management Doctor. But it will pay if you can find a pcp or other doctor that will give you pain meds. It is unlikely you will find a Louisiana Medicaid doctor that will prescribe Methadone for pain.
Hey could I please have ur Drs name. I am needing a pain dr since I lost my doctor to hin being suspended for Medicaid fraud or something like that.
A doctor in massachusetts did the same thing to my wife. She was complaining about neck and shoulder pain for 5 months. The doctor kept blowing my wife off because she had a history of drug abuse 5 yrs ago. The doc sent her to a pain clinic and the doc there found a cancer tumor in her neck. Stage 4. This dr. messed around for 5 months that my wife could of had treatment. I lost her on 3/19/2017. I am so pissed at this doc for not doing her job and running scared from the government for meddling in s*** they have no business being in.
Brett, if you get your prescription(s) filled in Louisiana you should not be restricted to only a 10 day supply if the doctor you see in Mississippi does not have a license to practice medicine in Louisiana as long as the pharmacist in Louisiana can view Mississippi's Prescription Monitoring Program.
Miscellaneous Prescribing/Dispensing Requirements:
"- Pharmacist may not dispense more than a ten day supply at a dosage not to exceed the FDA’s approved labeling for the medication if the prescriber for such medication is not licensed in Louisiana and the medication is an opioid derivative Schedule II or opioid derivative Schedule III controlled substance.
- Pharmacist shall notify the prescriber of the supply dispensed and the cancellation of the remainder of the prescription.
- Within 60 days of the dispensing, such medication shall not be dispensed again for the individual by a prescriber not licensed in Louisiana.
- Limitations don’t apply if the PMP information from the state of the prescriber can be viewed by the dispensing pharmacist."

Thanks BL, I'm changing Drs just to get Amoy opinion and going to try a Dr in Mississippi that has nothing to do with workers comp and hope for the best. I know I'll never get what Dr knight was giving me with all these new regulations but hope they will give me enough to have a decent quality of life. Thanks again
Metastasized cancer majorpain need Dr that prescribes methadone please help!
BL, thanks for your reply. I understand the whole deal with the regulations and the reasons why they say they are doing this. When you've been on opioids for as long as I have I don't think it's humane to taper someone as fast as this Dr. has me. Although this is a workers comp recommend Dr. and I'm sure since the nurse case manager knew him so well and the cost of my breakthrough meds where somewhere around $3000 a month that a little to do with it being cut out first. I believe that a pain management Dr. should be able to use their own judgement when prescribing meds for chronic pain simply because they know how the patient reacts to the meds and not everyone metabolize medicine the same. No matter what the CDC does the overdoses they are so called concerned about will no doubt get worse and the suicide rate of chronic pain sufferers will continue to rise because the mind and body can only take the pain for so long. To me it's kinda like gun control. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Same with drugs, legal or illegal. Have a nice day and thanks again for your reply.
Brett, the CDC Recommendations state no more than 90 mg Morphine/90 mg Morphine Equivalent Daily Dosage. The CDC Recommendations are for Primary Care Physicians. But, a lot of Pain Management Doctors are going by the CDC Recommendations. Several years ago the FDA Recommended no more than 120 Mg Morphine/120 Morphine Equivalent Daily Dosage.
It is up to each doctor to prescribe for each patient according to their professional judgement. Some doctors lie to their patients and blame reduction of meds on the government because patients argue with them less if they think it is out of their hands. It is highly doubtful you will find another doctor that will prescribe you the dosage you were taking before.
No brother, the Dr I'm seeing cut me from 70 mg 3 times a day to 30 mg 3 times a day, and cut my break thru meds off. After seeing the same Dr for 15 yrs and never failing a U/A or calling scripts in early my Dr retired and now I'm stuck with this s***. What's so bad is that the pm doc says I need another surgery but his hands are tied which is bulls***. If u read the CDC guidelines it's not even meant for pm Dr.s. It's meant for new patients seeing MD's. It's just an excuse to cover their ass. I wish he had to walk around in my pain for just one day. He wouldn't walk in the office with that s*** eatin grin on his face every month. If someone on here finds a compassionate Dr that is more worried more about his patients pain than losing his license over a regulation that's a recommendation and not a law please let me know and i'll do the same. We got to stick together thru this s***. {edited for privacy}. I've wrote the CDC & Dea and they blame the Drs and the Drs blame them. What a joke. And it's not funny from where I stand. Good luck peeps.
Did you find a Dr?
I am going to be in the same situation your in and the quality of life will change for ever.
I know this is an old post but I lost my Dr in Metairie and am lookin for a Dr to prescribe methadone. I was takin 70 mg 3 times a day. And Actiq 600 mcg 4 times a day. I'm in a bind.
Hi, I'm in Lafayette. Any chance you still see that doctor?
Can anyone please help me. Chronic pain sufferer since 2003. Was on MDs for 3 yrs. Changed my life. Was screwed by Dr who later would lose luscence. Who's prescribing MDs for chronic pain in baton R ouge?? Thanks
y'all god bless feel better!!!!!!
It is sad that people have ruined it for others. The misuse and selling of their meds. There are ppl that are in serious chronic pain that has to suffer. It is very hard to get methadone scripts. Most doctors think that you are drug seeking or faking. I just had back surgery and I have three cages in my back. I am in pain everyday. It doesn't matter how much I stress to my doctor how badly I hurt. He continues to give me Percocet. I hardly sleep. My husband suffers because of me. Having to take care of me. I am not drug seeking. I am in constant pain. Good luck in finding a doctor. I transitioned from Fla to La and I had no problem getting my meds for 13 years. Never had bad blood or urine. Always had the right count. I truly suffer. Again, good luck and God Help You.
TC, there is no way of knowing if an MRI from over 10 years ago and a copy of your previous doctors medical records will be enough for a new doctor to prescribe Methadone.
My MRI was done after my last Back surgery and it's dated 2003 will that alond with my last doctor's records be enough to get treatment?
I don't know which one your talking about.. I know that the med's cost a lot but these damn doctors leave us no choice..
Tara , does your job offer iinsurance ? Have you talked to your PCP about managing your pain ?
That would really help me out alto thank u so much
