Doctors In Louisiana That Prescribe Methadone For Chronic Pain (Page 17)
UpdatedI have been taking 120 mg of methadone for approximately 5 years. My husbands job transferred us from Florida to Louisiana where I found a pretty good pain doc. He is now running scared and wants to take me off of methadone. Methadone has given me a good quality of life; I am able to work and be a productive member of society. My doctor is unwilling or unable to assist me in finding a new doctor who will continue my meds. Oh yeah, I have been the route of blocks and injections and gotten little if any relief. I'm tired of being branded a drug seeker-I have years of medical records that back up my claims and verify the dosages that I've been on-what drug seekers have this kind of back up? I am looking for a Louisiana doctor, but am willing to travel (within reason of course). Please help!!
BL, thanks for your reply. I understand the whole deal with the regulations and the reasons why they say they are doing this. When you've been on opioids for as long as I have I don't think it's humane to taper someone as fast as this Dr. has me. Although this is a workers comp recommend Dr. and I'm sure since the nurse case manager knew him so well and the cost of my breakthrough meds where somewhere around $3000 a month that a little to do with it being cut out first. I believe that a pain management Dr. should be able to use their own judgement when prescribing meds for chronic pain simply because they know how the patient reacts to the meds and not everyone metabolize medicine the same. No matter what the CDC does the overdoses they are so called concerned about will no doubt get worse and the suicide rate of chronic pain sufferers will continue to rise because the mind and body can only take the pain for so long. To me it's kinda like gun control. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Same with drugs, legal or illegal. Have a nice day and thanks again for your reply.
Metastasized cancer majorpain need Dr that prescribes methadone please help!
Thanks BL, I'm changing Drs just to get Amoy opinion and going to try a Dr in Mississippi that has nothing to do with workers comp and hope for the best. I know I'll never get what Dr knight was giving me with all these new regulations but hope they will give me enough to have a decent quality of life. Thanks again
Brett, if you get your prescription(s) filled in Louisiana you should not be restricted to only a 10 day supply if the doctor you see in Mississippi does not have a license to practice medicine in Louisiana as long as the pharmacist in Louisiana can view Mississippi's Prescription Monitoring Program.
Miscellaneous Prescribing/Dispensing Requirements:
"- Pharmacist may not dispense more than a ten day supply at a dosage not to exceed the FDA’s approved labeling for the medication if the prescriber for such medication is not licensed in Louisiana and the medication is an opioid derivative Schedule II or opioid derivative Schedule III controlled substance.
- Pharmacist shall notify the prescriber of the supply dispensed and the cancellation of the remainder of the prescription.
- Within 60 days of the dispensing, such medication shall not be dispensed again for the individual by a prescriber not licensed in Louisiana.
- Limitations don’t apply if the PMP information from the state of the prescriber can be viewed by the dispensing pharmacist."

A doctor in massachusetts did the same thing to my wife. She was complaining about neck and shoulder pain for 5 months. The doctor kept blowing my wife off because she had a history of drug abuse 5 yrs ago. The doc sent her to a pain clinic and the doc there found a cancer tumor in her neck. Stage 4. This dr. messed around for 5 months that my wife could of had treatment. I lost her on 3/19/2017. I am so pissed at this doc for not doing her job and running scared from the government for meddling in s*** they have no business being in.
Hey could I please have ur Drs name. I am needing a pain dr since I lost my doctor to hin being suspended for Medicaid fraud or something like that.
James B, if you have Louisiana Medicaid, it will not pay for a Pain Management Doctor. But it will pay if you can find a pcp or other doctor that will give you pain meds. It is unlikely you will find a Louisiana Medicaid doctor that will prescribe Methadone for pain.
Mary, I only want to suggest you ask for the oxycodone without aspirin or tylenol. Being on methadone for years, most pain meds don't work. I was in the hospital and they gave me the oxy without the aspirin or tylenol (aka quick release) and for the first time I found relief. Nothing else would touch it. The down fall, as you all know, is trying to get the narcotic regularly is almost impossible. The upside is that you may take less.
Responsible pain management doctors will give you the 10mg quick release oxycodone, at least my doctor did when I tried to get off methadone. Unfortunately, I didn't realize what a good job the methadone was doing for me because I couldn't have a normal existence without pain when i was off of the methadone. Silly me thinking maybe I didn't need the methadone anymore.

I need help finding a new Dr I can't seem to find one that will take care of my needs
Re: Kn0t (# 1)
One pain clinic in st Louis Missouri put me on methadone and I didn't have a good experience with it. I was in more pain and I felt very agitated the whole 11 months I was on it. I asked my doctor to stop it and he refused, so I said fine I will take myself off it.
I have been on every pain drug from Vicodin to fentanyl and all in between, oxycontin (not to be confused with oxycodone) that is Percocet. Morphine and the list goes on. I've never been addicted to ANYTHING. I had stopped my meds on my own my whole life.
The methadone was awful to stop..I will NEVER forget how I felt..depressed feeling..hopeless...extreme nausea and vomiting, chills and shaking. I will never allow another doctor put me on that AGAIN!

Different strokes for different folks. I've been on methadone for over 10 years, best thing that ever happened to me when I decided to switch from a drug cocktail to methadone. I'm sure it saved my life if not my marriage...
I am looking for a methadone clinic or dr in louisiana that accept Medicare or Medicaid. Please help if you know any, I need one asap.
Re: Vic (# 333)
Louisiana Medicaid does not pay for Pain Management Doctors.
Medicare does not cover Methadone given in outpatient clinics for addiction. Private doctors do not prescribe Methadone for addiction.
I'm not sure if you are looking for Methadone to treat chronic pain or an addiction. Methadone clinics do not treat chronic pain. Doctors that prescribe Methadone for chronic pain can't prescribe it for addiction.
If you have Louisiana Medicaid and need a Methadone Clinic to treat addiction call your Medicaid Health Plan.
Can anyone recommend a pain management doctor in Louisiana that prescribes methadone? I'm a chronic pain patient and need help! TY!

Re: BionicC. (# 22)
I sure need this info. Could you kindly help me out?
I need a Louisiana pain management doctor, preferably prescribing methadone...other pain meds are ok too. I have medicare with humana as my supplemental insurance for severe back injuries and arthritis.
I have had Sciatica, knee injuries broken back and have been on just about every pain med there is available in Sweden and now England. Fentanyl 75mcgs Zomorph and then to 240mls Physeptone. This is about twice as strong as regular methadone. It is the best pain killer I have had and here everything is free. No one talks or questions who makes it (30 yrs ago I helped my village chemist make it up incl. what colour I preferred.) But you Americans seem to have a terrible time with meds. Which company made it generic or original? Which chemist to go to.? Surely like here and Europe it makes no difference. As long as the active ingredient is in at the stated dose it doesn't matter what it looks like or what name they give it. Too much capitalism seems to cause paranoia. Roche one of the best drug companies ever changed Rohypnol from white tablets to green with a blue filling. Sweden refused to stop prescribing after US and UK banned it. Makes no sense to ban a drug that you can't knock out people using their drinks as there are still many more that are similar. Triazolam (Halcyon?) still everywhere. Anyway back to Methadone for back pain. No it is not at all recommended here. I go to a pain clinic. The only reason I get Methadone (Physeptone) is because I have been using it for decades. They actually say that Voltaren (Diclofenic) is the best pain killer for lower back pain. Rarely they prescribe opiates for anything other than Cancer patients. So basically as the NHS are government funded they have no reason to lie. But outside of a pain Clinic you can persuade certain Drs to prescribe any narcotic you want. It all depends here on the Dr. In Sweden they have a live stream data base over private Drs prescribing narcotics too often. Here in England they don't but the village I live in have a practice where they have set up rules on prescribing narcotic medication. I am moving to a new village with better Drs. Some are like police, give them power and they play god. Don't know about the USA but glad I am here.
