Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Massachussetts
UpdatedI am in need of a new doctor in my area that is not going to blow me off when I am a new patient with a history of taking M S Contin, Oxycontin and Oxycodone. If anyone knows a decent doctor in my area I would appreciate the refferall it is hard to just call around for one when I say that I have been on meds they say they don't do that. Are you allowed to go out of state? to the next state over I am so sick of the reaction the second you mention a history of narcotics. I have recently lost feeling partially in my arms and legs from a car accident. What happened to good old doctor's
Hello,
Unfortunately, no one can really know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion and not on someone else's previous appointment (especially since many doctor's are now worried about losing their licensing for prescribing too many narcotics).
Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Just make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach in my opinion, is to discuss up front and honestly what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. Most doctors will take it under consideration and hear you out if you approach them in this manner. I believe a lot of patients don't get the medication they need because they are approaching the doctor in such a needy way that they are being viewed as addicts or junkies and not patients. So as awkward as that may seem, it is something to consider and be made aware of, because sadly enough, that is how many rudimentary doctors tend to think.
In regards to finding a local pain doctor, I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results:
{link removed because site no longer exists}
You can give this other page a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another:
wellness.com/find/pain%20management%20specialist
Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consider calling up a number of them to see if they are accepting new patients; some aren't, but most usually are.
Also, if you'd like to take a more natural approach I recommend using essential oils. Here's a link to a page that offers information about different essential oils that can be used for pain of all types: experience-essential-oils.com/essential-oils-for-pain.html
I hope this info helps and wish you all good luck on finding the right doctors!
Lower back pain that I have had since about 1994
I'm having the same problem. Drugs online may not be the drug they say. and I hope you're not foolish enough to buy at the prices they sell. You could make a relationship with a doctor to whom you pay cash for the visit and the script and then pay cash for the rx. I'm going to medical marijuana. I've got 4 years of documentation to show I qualify. I don't want street seed. I want the wide variety I can get behind a counter. I can't really afford it on disability but maybe it will help enough to make me presentable to get back to work. Saved enough oxy to kill myself but I really wish I could get better. I'm only 60 and don't want to live like this. Everytime I got help from a doctor the next doctor changed the treatment. It may not be about you - maybe docs are competing for the loudest voice. For sure, it is foolish to think a doctor is your friend. They can bounce you in 5 minutes, and will. They won't be there, don't depend on them or the cheap dope. Also, if you get an rx, use the hospital pharmacy.
Don't take it down to Mexico - maybe have to get a strong arm to make the trip since you're so far away. I'm in AZ and would suggest someone out on bail, they are not afraid. the pharmacy is right across the border. I'm sorry for your pain, pretty sure they checked you for shingles, cervical spine rotator shoulder? Good luck, or better luck.
I am williing to write a message that's more detailed. Right now I haveto take a break.
It hurts too much. I need a pin management clinic or preferrably a neurologist that is willing to proceed with a rx to manage my pain.

My husband has grown medical marijuana for me now since 2000. MMJ is all female plants no males. He grows 3 plants at a time in Hydro so it is free of any chemicals. He learned about all of this through Greenway College. It is a great course. The best part is you know what and where it has in it and where it came from. I have permission for 12 plants because I'm a mess but it works. Part of pain is the strain on muscles and tendons these become relaxed with MMJ decreasing pain. I use for sleep. AM on minimum doses of pain meds since then
Anyone know of a Primary Care physician in the New Bedford, Mass area that definitely WILL prescribe my meds the specialists order-eg: antidepressants, blood pressure med, pain med. DESPERATE for a good PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR IN NEW BEDFORD AREA!!!

JN and posters,
NEVER attempt American medications in Mexico or go to one of their physicians and ask for Oxycontin.
In Mexico Oxycontin is Tylenol to use an example. I don't know why anyone would risk this.
P450
Posters,
The critical ones I've read below like Janet Marie need to get involved with teaching hospitals in Boston that will give proper care they cannot turn their back on you. In your case JM find out where your last physician is and reestablish immediate care if you have to use former address and travel with the FDA 120 mg. morphine equivalent you are f***ed as most of us in America and if you read my posts go to the HOME page - I post on trending posts listed.

Hello
it is 12:30pm and I just read a message from a professional who knows about me.
I'm grateful for the compassion. This is the most unbelievable coincidence. Last Saturday I couldn't stand the pain and I had to have my 82yo mother drive me to the
ER. after a 3+ hour wait I saw a dr. and I have to be honest about my MS and I told him that I cannot take the pain. He had a nurse give me 2 Vicodin at the hospital.
He wrote a script for me and the nurse gave it to me as we were leaving. I have a bad reaction to that RX. My scalp, nose, lips became very itchy. I have been using Lidocaine patches and Ibuprofen since. That was exhausting. Tomorrow is December 20. Every year my niece and I celebrate our birthdays with the family. I have been stressing out about tomorrow. I can remember last year I had to sit with my leg up on a chair I haven't had any relief since then. I cannot try to rest because there is going to be a lot of people that I only see once a year in the house. I cannot stand still and shower or brush my teeth. I am sorry that I don't have good news I 'll have to share more after this weekend.
are there teaching hospitals outside of Boston? There is a hospital in Peabody that is related to the mass general. My neurologist isn't giving me a disease-modifying treatment for a couple of years. I cannot physically go all over the state. I am very surprised that he can keep blowing me off.
Hi I have to know how to deal with this situation. I have very dry mouth and drinking water doesn't solve the problem. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks This is Janet Marie.
P450,
I spoke to the neurologist on 12/05/2015. He told me that he isn't giving me "pain medicine". I have had incredible pain in my leg since 9/2014. He knows that. I found out today that he is on vacation through 1/2016.
Janet Marie I'm surprised your neurologist is able to blow you off for 2 years of no "disease modifying medication" AND no "pain medicine"? How is he getting away with NOT treating you? If he can't or doesn't want to treat your pain he should have the common decency to refer you to pain management! !

OMG!!! Looking for doctors to prescribe narcotics is an art and requires thoughtful, articulate and adult skill. It is an approach like this from the person to whom you responded to that is clearly making the problems chronic pain patients face , so much worse. People wake up, use your head. Take a referral from your dr, your medical records and MRI and cats can reports. Let things like this make your case for you. The less said the better, because I will tell you for sure, that dr that you are sitting two feet away from is giving you the once over with an eagle eye, for sure. And act and dress conservative. When you make yoyr first call, tell the office your appt is for pain management and stop. When you see the dr smile, look them in the eye and shake their hand. The first impression is everything. Your description of your pain management history must match your records. Don't try to make any changes at the first meeting., OR try to increase the dose u less your referring dr states in the referral letter that the dose you are on is inadequate for whatever reason. These docs feel threatened by pain management patients, especially if you are new. The last thing they want is a problem, especially a narcotic problem. An attempt to get a valid, ongoing RX for pain meds for chronic pain is an ART...please don't forget it, seat you do in your efforts, unfortunately. will affect the rest of us. Don't think for a minute that these docs are not discussing these situations in their professional forums, cause they are!!
Keikee,
What about the website you mentioned in one of the other post about finding out the prescribing habits of Dr. from state to state? I think you called it Pro Publica, is that right? You said it told the percentage of narcotics each Dr. prescribed, right? What choices are we being left with these days? You are in PA, right? I am in NC & no luck with a good pain Dr. yet. Pls keep me posted, everyone. This back pain is like a blow torch & ice scraper every single day! I hope to hear from you, Keilee!
Can u please tell me the name of the clinic that you are going through I am desperate need of a doctor please help me
Wow and another who did not bother who actually read what I wrote. I Never asked them if they prescribed specific Narcotic Medications by Name. I asked them what they did for treatment of chronic pain. As in what options they offered and they listed injections, alternate therapies and non narcotics. And they specified that they no longer utilize pain killers in the treatment of chronic pain because they have a policy of not prescribing them and they do not take over the prescribing of any medications from primary care doctors .......... I sure as hell did not call around to pain management clinics and go hey do you prescribe fetnanyl or oxtcodone ??? I know many other chronic pain patients who are currently being seen not only at this specific clinic but 4 others who have all said the same thing and these are patients who have gone through multiple surgeries and when it comes to actual pain medications the clinics are doing pain consults which recommend what pain medication and at what dosage for there primary care doctors to prescribe. Problem is many of the primary care doctors are refusing to follow those pain consult recommendations because of the new guidelines
@Keikee thank you!! That made no sense to me. I was a doctor an someone is telling me over the phone what heavy duty opiates they want I would say no also. Common sense should tell the person to make an appointment and go in for a consult with your medical records and discuss treatment options. Calling around trying to see which doctor will give you opiates without an assessment, makes no sense.
They said they do not prescribe any narcotic pain medications at all and that they do not take over writing prescriptions from primary care doctors, which is what my doctor was referring me to them for. He said he could not give me a referral for a pain consult because management told him he cannot do that. But that he would refer me to a pain specialist who would take over my prescriptions. I contacted there office and did not specify what medications i was on but simply told them why my doctor was referring me to them and that was the response I got back, they said all they do is injections there and alternative therapies combined with non narcotics. I had also been to this pain management clinic before as it is the same place but different doctor that botched the epidural injection procedure to my neck and caused my injuries to become worse. I also contacted multiple other pain specialists and pain management clinics in my area but got pretty much the same responses from them being that they no longer utilize any opiate medications for treatment of chronic pain. But this week I did get a call back from one pain specialists office who I will have to change my insurance provider to be seen by the doctor there but they did say that it is a case by case basis in what they use for treatment of chronic pain, So at least they did not rule out pain medications 100% as all the other places I had contacted. So at least now there is a chance I will be able to get back on my regular dosage once I am able to get seen and they go through all my medical records, procedures, MRI's and the neurological evaluations I am about to have done next week. Unfortunately I will have to wait another month before being seen as my pain levels already have started rising with me back using the cane much more often which in and of itself causes more pain to my hand from the pressure, I am also having more problems as it seems my feet are getting worse with the uncontrollable cramping acting up way more often then it has over the past 6 years like it is happening anywhere from 1 or 2 times per hour now when for the past few years it would only happen a few times over the coarse of the day or if I was doing too much standing or walking. The spasms feel like my feet are being torn apart while burning on fire :(
Well you are doing the right thing ddriiiiing water. You could ask try sucking on hard candy.
