Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 66)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Hey Joey,

I respect your opinion, but hear mine. In 2001, I developed RA (rheumatoid arthritis) and the pain began. It's now 2014, and I am on the same dose as I was after the first year. It's the dose that keeps the pain at bay. You don't build tolerance if the pain is controlled and you don't take more than you need.
I will add that I am physically dependent on them. Not addicted. I don't think
About them, or work on getting the next high. I take some meds at times of
Day, I don't run out and I don't abuse them. You would honestly be surprised
At how few pill addicts there are compared to those who really need. My
Dr keeps my pain gone. However now, my RA is making the pain much worse
Especially in the am and I see him tomorrow and need to tell him that
I need an increase. He'd better. I have seen them for 5 years. I did ramble,
But Joey give us the benefit of the doubt or .....

I feel your confusing dependence to addiction.
Dependence is due to your body gets accustomed to any drug, however
Addicts tend to always , always thinking about the drug, dr shopping cuz they need
More than the 1 dr said they need , for a buzz. The more and more you live this way, you end up so far addicted, broke, no nothing. Dependence , however
Is a side effect. Like gas. I'm on a lot. But I have a great quality of life, full time
Job, I'm able to function. That's the key

Tinytoon you are right about the addiction and/or dependency to pain meds. I have been on pain meds for 20 years and started with darvocets and I have been on most every one that is out there. Ive been on thae same pain meds for the last 9 years. When the meds stop working because your body becomes used to the meds then you must increase your doseage or change the meds for awhile.and about dr shopping they make such a big deal about it but we have the right to get second opinions or find the right dr that is willing to help someone, its just like buying a car or anything you may want, so this dr shopping crap is wrong and as this country says we are but are we really. we have people telling what we can do or cant do. ive had so many drs telling that the amount of pills they give to us is enough to control your pain, but as I know many others know what works best for them. Iknow what it take to control my pain how in the hell does a dr know what how my body feels. the best dr is one that has had to go through a back surgery or some other kind if pain at least he know what is like to have uncontrolable pain. kina rambling on this subject really eats at me really bad. my son died three yrs ago because he could not get enough pain meds so he got meds off the streets and the methadone he was taking didnt work with the other meds. methadone has killed alot of people and i know of dr only prescribing methadone untill he found just how many people it had caused thier deaths so he stopped giving those to people and switched to dilaudids. some of this so called pain drs were anesthesit the say the money that coujd be made by becoming a pain specialist when in fact there or very few drs that actuall did anyresearch on pain control sorry for going on andon but what can I say? f100

Before I moved to my new place, I began calling pain drs, clinics, in my new area
And asked if their drs are respectful and not afraid to prescribe my current meds and
Dosage. I hope you find a good, caring dr. It's a 2way relationship. If you want
The doctors to respect you and your pain, you need to play by the rules.

A lot of people abuse them because they start on pain meds due to conditions, build up a tolerance and then addiction. These meds are very addicting and ppl can very easily go into addiction, which is a disease.

I have chronic pain due to a broken tail bone (twice!). My doc in Colorado Springs stopped prescribing anything other than tramadol, which doesn't work well. I had been taking 2-3 hydro 5/325's per day. Leaving in 2 days for a 3 week business trip and am desperate to find relief before I leave. Any immediate help with information would be appreciated!

I have been to Colorado Pain Relief, and they do not judge you or think you just want to feel high. You do have to send your MRI/Xray reports before they see you, but if you have been on strong medication before, you will have no problem getting them.

I also need help to find a good doctor in Colorado. I am feed up with doctors telling me drugs will make things worse. I understand people abuse drugs, but I have several serious conditions, I have two jobs, I am a full-time student, and four children. I cannot handle the pain and it seems to be getting worse. I was with Kaiser a while back and begged them to do surgery on my spinal stenosis, but they would not do it. I spend a long time trying to find a way to have it done, which was taking part in a study, but of course, Kaiser refused to give me a referral. Who would want to have surgery if they were not suffering? It is silly. I need to find help soon. I know it a year or two I will have good insurance and will get the surgery I need, but in the mean time, I need to get medicine to control my severe pain. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Brian there is a cash clinic in the westward for pain. CPR in Wheat ridge is another but u need recent Mri, and pain mangement referral. Look up Dr Andy Fine in Littleton. he will help u. he's 80 bucks and will write u some pain meds.

Just fyi, when I saw Andy Fine, he told me "you're absolutely too young to need pain meds so this first month we're going to get you off methadone and by the second month we'll drop the oxycodone then start doing injections. Maybe if you're not a young chronic pain patient he will help you, but I felt INCREDIBLY judged when I saw him.... And he was ALL about getting me off all meds in 7 weeks. And with methadone that's just horrible doctoring. Even other doctors have laughed and said he obviously doesn't know about the drugs because tapering off methadone in a month is guaranteed withdrawals. Especially when he was trying to take away my oc's too. I have tried injections and do everything I can to help my back from massages to inversion therapy to stretching to strengthening my back to support my spine, acupuncture, and chiropractic. But until all that stuff starts getting rid of my pain I have to have something to help with the pain so I can work and continue getting great grades in college. So just be weary. Plus a lot of PCPs are stopping even writing pain meds because they are leaving it up too pain management. I finally have been lucky enough to go to CPR and every doctor I've seen there is incredibly understanding, not judgemental, and they try to work with you to find what treats your pain the best. Which I have found to be Kadian. Fentanyl was just not working for my low back pain at all. Now that I'm on Kadian which = morphine ER, like ms contin, but the delivery in Kadian is completely different and it makes a HUGE difference. It is capsules with little balls inside, opposed to ms contin that is just a tablet that has a coating, and it works so well for my back pain that I am willing to have my insurance premium go up if need be, because they are expensive. But if you have chronic low back pain, try kadian if you're curious about morphine's effectiveness. MS contin just doesn't get absorbed as well it seems. Which is probably why it's so much more expensive. So Brian, you feel free to try Andy Fine, but from reading your post, you just might find that he is the kind of doctor that will tell you drugs make it worse if he treats you as he treated me. If he treats you like that, I PROMISE that ,180 and taking a UA each month is worth it to get the meds you need, not be judged, and have someone sit and discuss with you what you feel is something that would work rather than tell you what they will write and telling you either take it or go elsewhere. Please let me know what you decide because I want to see anyone in the position I was in get the help they need. Especially for people like you who have so much on your plate and a family. You need to be able to live, and not just exist. All I know is that CPR has given me some quality of life again. I hope you get the help you need, and I would like to hear what happens in your situation.

Brian-I am moving to Colorado Springs and it's been HELL finding a doctor to take me as a patient because I have a pain pump. They either so take my insurance or don't work with pain pumps. I even had dr. Verhey in Colorado Springs review my records and tell me he couldn't meet my needs. I have called WELL OVER 80 DOCTORS and my rep told me about Colorado Pain and Dr. Sisson. So far they have been amazing, so understanding, helpful and most of all sympathetic, which is so hard to come across. I'm going to be officially in Colorado on august 14 or 15 and will be making an appt to see them the following week. They seem like the office I'm currently at so I'm hoping it works out.

FYI...CPR started the mail order Rx yesterday and that pharm. Will only take scripts of 3 Oxycodone or less a day. For those of us on more..we can still fill at our pharmacy but they plan to have all of us down to 3 per day w/I 6 mos. Also it will be a full 30 days now. Also as of 8/1 Medicaid will only cover a max of 4/day. So I'm paying cash of $70 for my 5 per day. Sorry to be a downer... But if any of u have a problem Plz tell Amanda. Together we can make a change?
And for the love of God. Listen to Mac about Dr. Fine. He's the LAST doc I Wud see again.

I only said Dr fine because he will give u meds. I been to the man he called me fat and took me off my oxycotin with a brain tumor. If you can take morphine he has no problem writing it. If don't mean stay with him I said get help till u can find another idea.

I really need to find a doctor in the Springs area, I have to drive 3 hours round trip to go to CPR. They are nice but it's a hassle to have to go out there.

Anyone know of a non-judgmental doctor in the Springs? :(
