Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 273)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

State of CO published results of a test on ER pain relievers. CO says if a person isn't already on ER, don't prescribe it for them. It's healthier to give a slightly higher dose of IR than to give ER.

YOU Are offensive ; YOU judge people that got addicted because SOME have much worse physical ailments THAN YOU & became dependent on pain meds from dr! You sound like a " disgusting ass junkie " ( AS YOU PUT IT) yourself! God will judge YOU the same way though..

Gigi, just so you are aware, you are ranting at a dead man. Mac took his own life years ago due to the fact that he was unable to find the right doctor and get his pain under control.
Good luck!

I just found out this past week that she will no longer be practicing at Colorado Pain Relief and Wellness in Wheat Ridge Colorado. I do not know if they have a new provider yet or not. This could get tricky.

Re: Smalls (# 5444) Expand Referenced Message

Really, odd because I keep getting dm's , also Dr's were precribing PLENTY in 2012 through 2018; they just started the crackdown last year. Also, if one is taking meds for pain and the only difference in the drug is " the intoxication" ; if someone complains about THAT not being in their meds/ they are chasing a high not pain relief ( I stand by what I said)

Hi, can you recommend a good gentle oral surgeon? I've got same issue as you with pacer. And of course, just like you all, the wires pierced the pericardial sac the first time. Boy if it wasn't for bad luck, we wouldn't have any luck at all. At this point, I'd be happy with that.

Would really love to chat about teeth. I'm scared and hate the dentist, the real surgeries I've had don't scare me but dental does.

My husband had 18 teeth removed due to periodontal disease. He is on warfarin and they were amazing. Even called us at night to check in on him several times. Plus we had an issue with insurance not paying them and it took us months to get it straightened out and they were so amazing about it. I recommend them all the time and no one has ever said they regretted using them.

How did your social security issue work out. I've been dealing with it as well and what a struggle. The additional stress has not been good for me. How are you doing?? I agree with the cbd statements you make.

Re: Smalls (# 5452) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks for the recommendation. I am finally caught up to where I joined. Are you all still meeting up? Doing online chats?

Thanks to the person who suggested starting with one room for cleaning then do that room first the next day. It seems to be working.

Several years ago you all mentioned a wonderful primary care group that was husband and wife. Are they still in town? I need a caring primary group. Also neuro group.

To jog everyone's memory, I started the Dr Lincoln trend, still a great Dr but more u/a now than before. Also, I compared the cost to a cup of coffee everyday.

For the cbd group besides Wendy's option, herbal fracture is great, no thc. Makes a diffetence.

My latest health travels include a body that thinks my temp should be at 94 so goes onto overdrive all the time, makes night sweats seem like a little glow. But can't lose any weight despite my body working overtime to lower temp.

Hope you all have a great weekend and I'll stop monopolizing the board.

Re: MaC686 (# 2) Expand Referenced Message
I made an appointment with a Doctor after I moved and he came in without ever saying a word to me and said “we don’t prescribe pain meds here” you need to leave. He had never met me, I was an older person, he had none of my medical records. This “Doctor” knew nothing about me whatsoever and was the rudest, nastiest person I had ever met. I left immediately (I already had a prescription for my meds before I moved and had a 6 month supply. This happened in 2009. The Doctors have been abused by the agencies that monitor them and they MAY take out their frustrations on any person that comes before them. It is just the world we live in.

Re: MaC686 (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

IF a Doctor has all of your medical records and does his due diligence to verify that you need pain medications then USUALLY they will be fine if someone looks at them. However, many Doctors have just decided that, even if a patient is eligible for pain medications, they just will not write the prescriptions because they say they are too big of a pain in the ass to write them. Personally, I went to three different Neurological Associations and my Doctor asked them to all write a separate report. They all came up with the same options: (1). They could try surgery but they would not be able to correct more than 50% of the issue and I would have surgery, a large scar, and months of rehabilitation. (2) They could give me joint shots but I was told by all three of them that this was only a temporary fix. OR (3). They asked me if I was tolerating the pain medicine okay and if I was I could stay on that. After my Doctor got all of the reports he asked me which option I would prefer. I told him that I did not want surgery if it would only partially correct the issue, that the joint shots were only temporary and that I would try and find some medication therapy that would be a more long term answer. He agreed and put me on a step therapy program and I had an appointment every six weeks and was asked if that was working and I told him that I think we need to try something a little stronger and so he prescribed the next thing up in strength until we finally landed on a pill that was working. To write my prescription the Doctor had all of the supporting paperwork to prescribe what he did and he has never had any issues to my knowledge. Just calling a Doctor and asking if they prescribe a certain pain medication will probably not work.

The Doctors Office wants you to come in, be examined and they will ask your previous Doctors for all of your medical records. It may take as much as a month for them to get all of the supporting documentation BEFORE they will write a prescription. I went to one Pain Doctor who advised me that if I qualified I had to make an appointment every month and then I could get a new prescription. That would require a $40 copay EVERY MONTH. I told him that I was living on a fixed income and could not incur a $40 expense EVERY month plus medication expenses and he told me that I was not on much (as compared to the patients they usually see) and that I should go back and see my regular Doctor and he would send them a report saying they should write the prescription. They have but, after more than 12 years, it has been a tenuous situation at best. My guess is that if they get too many people calling them to ask if they write pain prescriptions that they may think that the word has gotten out that they write pain prescriptions and so they are not writing any pain medications anymore and referring everyone to a pain specialist. If a Doctors name is put out there as a Doctor that will write pain scripts they will think somebody “put the word out” that they are easy and just stop writing pain prescriptions altogether unless you are a long term patient in their office. The different agencies have become so aggressive that Doctors are just saying to hell with it. I can’t stand the paperwork and harassment.

Re: MaC686 (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

Has any of your dr.s said anything about having surgery to help with some of your issues? Mine has, I've had MRI's done for a neurologist and he advised having surgery to help my pain and gain quality of life..I've had 2 surgeries already and now having one for sciatica nerve pain. I have to admit, I feel pretty darn good. I hope you find what you're lookn for.

If it's low back pain. There is no better relief than a metatronic pain pump. My pump uses Hydromorphone and Buvicaine. Sometimes I can really live life again. I go in for a refill once every three months. I have had 8 back surgeries. 3 level fusion. And I can walk jog a little. I was fed up with the laws you have to go to pain management. Urinate in a cup after waiting 2 hours. Then finding a pharmacy.

Hi to all, I started reading this thread about 2 weeks ago, from the very first post up 'till page 54 of 273... I jumped ahead to this last page out of curiosity, which was much like reading a journal that hit many emotions, posts from people that struggle everyday to try to keep pain from dictating their activities, and I understand that unfortunately. I was sad to read that Mac, who started this thread/ forum, is no longer a part of this world. He sure knew his pharmacology, and he was able to write and communicate so well.. I'm not in CO, I live in TN, and I usually don't go to a party unless I'm invited, so I won't post in ya'll's forum, even though I'd love to have folks to talk to.. The one thing that I have in common with you is trying to make it through the day dealing with pain. I've only had my issues for 10-12 years, but it's a different world as far as Pain Management goes in just a decade, yes? Crazy changes, the "opioid crisis", changes in medication formulas, etc.. A whole different ball game. I hope that the folks that began this thread are finding some peace and comfort, as I know that a good Dr. is hard to find nowadays.. I'd share some of my stories and treatments that I'm receiving, so just ask and I'll happily join in. Hey, until then, wishing you well.

Re: TnJack175 (# 5459) Expand Referenced Message

You are more than welcome to post as you feel necessary. Thank you for admitting that you are in another part of the Country. Depending on where you live will determine a person's treatment. Laws are different from State to State. When a person recommends a particular practice the risk is taken that the practice will be inundated with requests for pain medications both legitimate and not legitimate. Doctors do NOT want the word of mouth advertising because they think they will be made as a "pill pusher" and that invites additional regulatory scrutiny. It has been my understanding that as long as a Doctor has the proper paper trail in the form of Neurological Reports and X rays supporting their diagnosis along with step therapy when appropriate then they will usually be okay.
