Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 217)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

LuvinLife there was another office that was accepting patients and I think they had a deluge after their name was posted and ultimately they ended up dropping people from this forum, legitimate people. There used to be a link where you could ask to correspond with one another directly, which is how some of us still contact each other. I do not know if it still exists.

I don't mean to come off as insensitive but the best way for this for the most beneficial is to take the time to go back and read all the posts from the beginning. Many doctors names appear starting from 2012 when Micah started this forum. We are here to support everyone who shared in our painful every day experiences and all the changes that have been going on and that are not helping our pain levels as they once did. Again I highly suggest you go back through all the posts and gather your information there in terms of finding a pain doc. And remember as in anything else one man's pain doctor Is not going to work for everyone. The only way to really get it right if you call these docs and make sure they offer the treatment modalities you are seeking. This way you don't throw away the first time visit fee.

Lucy,Cindy, luvinlife, I find your posts so helpful. When I was new, I spent hours reading older posts, gathering info, learning. You are right,we each need to find the best doctor for our individual situation, where we live etc! Thank you and especially Micah for starting this thread!

Cindy.... Several months ago the creators of this page… You are wonderful people… There were some issues with the way that they were allowing individuals to contact other individuals directly. They were working on a solution and to the best of my knowledge there is none yet. Could you keep you all posted if I find out differently.

I'm still confused about dr 'H' and Rx's. So I pay cash to see him but the Rx's I have to fill there? For a ton more money than my pharmacy or insurance co would have me pay? Or I can take them to my pharmacy?
Thanks for answering my questions. This whole idea of having to go to a cash only dr is confusing.
Also, can't I just turn in my receipt to my insurance co for the visit and meds?

I just wanted to say for the benefit of people who is new to CO that maybe we should be telling people who not to go to.
I have learned the hard way as I ignorantly did not know about paid suboxone clinics nor was I aware what an interventionalist dr really was. Or that I should ask if they are interventionalist before I go to a new clinic.
So is it ok to say which Dr's to avoid?

My primary diagnosis is Fibromyalgia. (Although I have additional issues with bulging disks and bone spurring, etc.). I'm looking for a pain management dr who recognizes Fibromyalgia and will treat up to the legal limit for opioids which I have been on for 35 years. The last ignorant dr I saw rolled his eyes at me when I mentioned Fibromyalgia. Can someone tell me a few names? I will do my due diligence after that. Can I also say Thank You all for talking. Since I have joined this site I feel like I'm not alone and I appreciate that more than you know.

Doctors haven't dropped patients due to this forum....first off, the names on the forum are not real names....and the docs don't have the ability to obtain real names.
Second, the doctors are busy enough that I doubt they go to some obscure website to see if their patients are posting here, recommending the doc they go too....and if they are truly a good, by the book doctor, they appreciate people being so satisfied with their care that they recommend the clinic to friends and others.
Doctors have many ways of determining if a person has a legitimate pain issue, or if they are just looking for pills, and they refuse to give pills to seekers.
I don't know how or why, but I have never needed to see a pain clinic. I have been on pain meds since 2010 for my knees, had both replaced, and now one of the replacements needs to be redone due to a recall and it failing. I don't have the time or funds to take the time off, so it's pain meds for the foreseeable future. My docs know I follow their rules, and I get my meds filled every month at Walmart , the doc gives me 3 prescriptions dated 1 month apart so I don't have to spend $50 and my time coming to the office every month. I have showed her many of the posts regarding new drug lass and policies posted here....she has said most are rumors

Jet mech, you are very lucky, I also had no problem until my doctor closed his practice on the western slope, I thougt no problem, I have the records, followed the rules, never needed the dosage increased, don't use anything illegal on the federal level, never reported lost pills, always used same pharmacy, same doc etc. My doc leaves and suddenly I was scrambling because the doctors don't want the hassle of dealing with the Feds. Sorry to hear about the knee replacement. I have a friend going through it now, no narcotics are prescribed, amazing, not even post operative pain. Keep your doc and pray they don't move, sell practice or retire!

I live near Loveland and Greeley. I recently moved out here functioning (for me with rest in between) about 5 out of 7 days with daily debilitating breakthrough pain around 5 & needed to take meds & rest then could accomplish a few little things & a doctor at the largest PM group in the area.. Cut my pain meds and made me suffer with unbearable, unbelievable, INHUMANE pain. I've had 3 major spinal surgeries with tests to prove pain. She planned to lower more even though I am at the point of needing a wheel chair because of nerve damage to legs & CRPS of both ankle and feet. On top of that, I was rear ended by a semi truck & my neck started flaring up again- after a successful cervical fusion 7 years ago. I called my PM dr in Cleveland Ohio & he said that I could fly back every 3 months & he'd give me the same meds that he's had me on & knows me well for 10 years. A Dr Kestin who was great & seemed to really understand & care that I went to w group but couldn't drive an hour, then I found out that he left when they decided to cut all pts pain meds to 120 morphine equivalent no matter how much quality of life is lost. If anyone knows where Dr Kestin is please let me know. Pain management is very political out here w that big group. Poor care came from top down. I talk to many people in a support group in many states & only a few Dr's are cutting meds. Also, I deny my dr an email listing everything that I told her - how badly debilitated & suffering & that she didn't seem to listen. I expected a 30 day waking letter. I've never ever complained in 17 years. Now, she/dr with the lying video ad said that she will not fill my pain meds until I can get into new pm dr. 3 weeks later & medical board states Dr's have to fill meds for chronic condition or is pt abdomens. She told receptionist to tell me to spread out what I have. I hope PCP or ER will give me 3 weeks worth. I'll post how new dr joining another pm dr is. I'm reporting her to state med board for negligence & abandonment. & many more boards & state attorney general for lying & false advertising. I've worked in the medical field for 25 years & never saw drs soley after money & treat patients so awful & w God complex above everyone else!! Pm Dr's ARE ALLOWED TO GIVE OVER THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNTS IF PT LOOSES QUALITY OF LIFE! I wish you all luck!

From your post I see that you have a female Dr. I am a 40 yr user of Hydrocodone. Never have asked for an extra pill. Never have lost an Rx. Or claimed they were stolen, or eaten by my puppy, etc. I have had women Dr's all 40 yrs. they have all retired. I have been searching for another female Dr. In pain management who will continue my meds. Could you please share the name of your dr. Or possibly point me to a post that would get me going in the right direction. Or give me a geographical area to search. I'm so afraid that if I start randomly picking names and going to find a compatible dr that I will be accused of dr shopping.

Smalls,

They can monitor all they want....they have no idea who anyone is.....Unless someone is using their real name as part of their username.
And I would try looking up the definition of the term "high horse"......you misused it.

Janedoe,

My doc is a male, and except for the yearly male stuff exam, I see one of his PA...or Nurse Practitioners. The clinic is in Parker Colorado and currently they aren't seeing new patients, as they turned my kids away! If you are on Medicaid, or have access to Denver Health clinics, I went there when I first moved back to Denver and saw Dr Kornberg...or something like that....at the Lowery Clinic. He was great, and insisted on keeping me on the same pain management regimen as I was on in Washington. If you have a legit issue, and follow their rules, there are quite a few docs that will do pain meds. I have found 2....with no issue...out of only visiting 2. As for the post saying some doc wouldn't even give pain meds for post open pain......there must be more to the story. I have had many surgeries, and have never ever had to think about going through that pain alone. With my knees.....I would have robbed the drug store if they tried to make me do it drug free. .....I couldn't imagine some of the other surgeries we have had here!!!

jetmech,
I do follow all the rules but here on the western slope, we do not have as many options as folks down in Denver, Denver health is putting new potential patients on a waitlist which I am on. It is a very close family member who is having knee replacement surgery with a very well known and respected knee replacement doc in Denver, she has to start on low level pain meds and only if it gets out of control while they give her a shot but she is not going home with any narcotic pain meds due the recent studies showing that narcotics are not the best way to control pain.
