Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 185)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Dorothy, Thank u for your response. Correct me if I am wrong, these r just recommendations, not rules, is this correct. Many doc's r following this rule but many also do not follow them if their patients have been stabilized for well over a year. Do u know anything about this. This hasn't been an issue for me but many r being just cut to this dosage regardless of what they have been on before. Doesn't make sense to me. Thank u!

Wendy, Boy I get that! We're on medicaid for a reason, they have tons of docs listed and none r taking any patients! How can folks think we can afford 180? It makes me furious! I'm with u!

I am a cancer patient whos quality of life has been effected so dramaticay i question whether or not continuing qith treatment is worth it. I had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, fibro myalgia, osteo arthritis and perosis prior to cancer and prior to that ive had over 35 surgeries for a genetic condition that causes pain and diafigurment called hidradenitis suppurativa. With a disabled veteran husband i often wonder if continuing my fight against cancer is worth it if it means i will only continue to suffer and gradually worsen without adequate pain management in the future if god willing i go into remission or hell even if i dont i am just doomed to suffer so is the fight worth it or ahould i stop the fight to stop Inevitably suffering sooner...

Scooter,
I can't imagine! We are here for u! I won't bore u with telling u we all need to sign petitions and such but I will tell u this regulation of medicares suggestions is not consistently practiced. I think your situation should determine how dosages should b considered. Think about talking to your doc or consider looking elsewhere, directly ask them what their practices are. I know this isn't much help now and I will try to help by looking also! Please hang in there!

This just isnt right i understand that theres a problem with abuse addiction and over prescribing but i hate being lumped into the same category as someone with a bad knee from an old injury;

Scooter,
I sure can understand that! Even that person with a bad knee is different from another person with a bad knee but somehow they get treated the same. Perhaps u need to look at different docs.

I'm a retired RN and it is a rule for Medicaid patients..120 pills of any narcotic...if you get prescribed 180 pills the pharmacy can run the 120 and you will have to pay for 60 tabs out of pocket. That's what my pharmacy does for me..But I've come to find out that pharmacy's seem to make up there own rules..Some will even lie to you or call your doctor and try to make problems for you....But any way its 120 period point blank for Medicaid patients...

Dorothy,
A 120 pills total? Or each script? Because what u r saying isnt what most doc's r following. Many r interpreting it as 120 mg total. There is quite a difference. Could u please provide where this is documented? Weve heard this over and over again and I haven't been able to find one shred of evidence, juSt that these r "medicare guidelines". Additionally, I know many patients who recieve 240 pills, is it per prescription? Folks just need clarification than just this "doc says". Additionally, do u have any ideas to help Scooter here? Most of the folks i know that possibly provide treatment r more of hospice type care or oncologists, which wouldn't b helpful. If u could at least provide where u saw this documentation it would b helpful as I can list multiple docs and pharmacies who follow much different policies and have not been able to provide truthful documentation and I've actually met with the docs. So please help!
Scooter, Have u tried CPR or Colorado Pain Relief or has anyone told u about them? At minimum they maybe able to hooK U Up WITH A MORE appropriate doc for your situation. Their doc and pa r very well educated in pain management. U probably will have to pay cash and honestly I haven't been able to find better. It's worth a call, u will need a referral and history but typically they can get u in within the week. Talk to Amanda. If u have further questions, write please.

How far is wheatridge from Centennial. Im driving 2hrs one way (im sure others drive further). Im not a "Spring Chicken" so the drive is so hard in me......Theres a few "Pain Specialists around that will help. But" Be prepared to give them Documentation of Everything regarding your illnesses. X rays. MRI"s..letters from primary...blood...etc......I have an appointment today w a new Dr..Closer to me. If things go smoothly and it looks like it migjt work for some of us I will let you know.....Ive spent countless hours calling offices trying to find a dr. "That' was the easy part tho". The hard part is having to ask a stranger without sounding like a desperate druggie for Meds. Theres no nice way of saying or asking for it. Ive found out that if I explain my background first...then ask can you help has seemed to Work".....I will let you know how it went today. Hopefully I can bring good news back for a great start to a New Year's. Happy Holidays ". :-).

Karina,
I live in Parker and I leave 45 min to drive. It's only about 20 minute to the office but with I-25 & traffic, it can b up to an hour. If the doc works close to u, stay there. U always have these guys if needed. I don't know Dr Closer, let us know how he is! Good luck!

Honestly I think people doses should be dispensed based on the condition they have; whether it be Cancer, etc., with no limit. Back problems, four pills a day. My point is no two conditions are alike.

I agree Scooter people with old knee or back problems from ten years ago are milking the system and are screwing it up for people who have Cancer .
