Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado
UpdatedI have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!
I'm truly sorry to hear about the pain you're having to cope with; but I think the information below can help you find the right doctor to assist you..
Listed below are a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results:
{link removed because site no longer exists}
You can give this other site a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another:
wellness.com/find/pain%20management%20specialist
Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consider calling up a number of them to see if they prescribe the type of medication you are seeking to manage your pain. You may also have to ask if they are accepting new patients, but the vast majority of them usually are.
Please post back if either of these links were able to work out for you. Hope this helps!
Thank you. The last pain management doc that I went into said right off the bat "Oh you're way too young to be on this stuff, you need to get on Suboxone to get off of this stuff." Obviously he COMPLETELY knows what has worked for my pain for the last 4 years and what hasn't. Some doctors are so ridiculous. Talk about God complex; they know EVERYTHING about you and what is best for you, hahaha. But ya hopefully they aren't like him, he seriously made me feel so demeaned and insulted. If only they had a tiny idea of what it is like to live with crippling chronic pain then maybe they wouldn't be so hard headed. It just sucks that it is hard for people like me who really need meds to get them because of all the people who abuse them. But I guess unless I can get a specific doctor that I KNOW will be a good fit I will just have to go to doc after doc until I find the right one. I really appreciate your help. I almost feel like an internal medicine doctor would be better than a pain management doc but I guess I will just have to go to a bunch. Thanks again!
I have an appt. this friday with a doctor I found online earlier today so if he doesn't work out I will run through the list of doctors on that doctors for pain website. Thanks again David. It's crazy how it seems the people who have no need for the pain meds and just sell them always seem to be able to find plenty of ways to get them.
Were you able to find a good dr? I just moved out here and I am having the same issue... Any info would be appreciated
Did you find a doc? I'm looking for one too and would appreciate any recommendations...you obviously know how hard it is out here looking for one and having a hard time finding someone to recommend one. Thanks!!
No I still haven't found one. I have gone to a couple and they all seem like they're too scared. I really hope neither of you are people who abuse pain meds, because people who abuse them are the entire reason that people like me who TRULY need them can't find them to save my life. It's truly disgusting to me. All the people that abuse them just completely ruin it for everyone else. I can't stand junkie ass people
Just as many people that are out there who abuse them there are many who simply need them to control pain and function...I am one of them. I have been on them for years and still only take about 4 a day (5 mg)...5 on a bad day because I just want to knock the edge off NOT feel all high and out of it, I can't stand to feel that way, just normal is all I'm looking for and hoping someone can point me in the direction of a doc. Thanks
I will definitely let you know as soon as I find one. I just wanted to say that because it frustrates me more and more everyday I can't find a new doctor. Thank god I have one that is at least continuing for a few more months but then he is completely stopping and he's not taking on anyone new. All because of a couple patients dr. shopping. Two patients screw it up for the other 30. It's just ridiculous. I've never once done a single thing to lose my opportunity to get the meds I need, and yet I still can't get them. But somehow the people who abuse them always seem to have them. It just sucks. But I will definitely let you know as soon as I find one. Wish me luck and I wish you the same!!!
Thank you so much, I do wish you lots of luck and I'll keep looking and let you know if I find anything.
I had a similar experience with my last doctor, so many people abusing it that he was just over it, he kept giving me mine though because I had undergone all the testing to back me up and never asked over the years for him to give me anything stronger but now that I have moved here to CO I am having a prob finding a doc who doesn't mind making a legit person just comfortable. That's all I want, comfort so I can work and take care of my kids, it's hard to function otherwise and everyone in my life suffers.
I am the same way. I am actually not even able to work right now until I get my back healed because it's THAT bad. So I am getting on disability in order to get all my discs and what not healed over a couple years. But I still have to go to school, which I am an Honor's Student in College. So I know how it goes, I don't have kids but I know how it goes with not being able to focus on anything else when you're in a lot of pain. I am only 21 and rarely go out or go to concerts like I love to because I am constantly in so much pain!!! But I once again wish you the best and will let you know if something turns up
Hi, if you have degenerated disk dieas. I have news for you, it never , ever will heal, go away, it will get worse with time. I get injections, they can help from anywhere from a couple months, to a year. The first time I had it done it didn't help. I had the injections again, so now, knock on wood it helps me to be pain fre for many months. I have a feeling what you just told everyone isn't the complete truth. Be honest, I don't judge anyone.
Give me your email and I'll send you a copy of my MRI. That's pretty ridiculous that you come on here accusing me of lying. I find that very offensive. Degenerative disc disease is only one of the many problems. I didn't post on this website to hear people telling me that I'm not telling the truth. Unbelievable
There is one clinic that is in wheat ridge, co right out of denver called colorado pain relief # 303-456-4882 if you call today then they might be able 2 get u in this week. The dr just asks u what works for u and then that is what u walk out with. But its 200 for ur first visit then 150 after that. But its pretty good and he listens very well. Hopeu call him or u have one now since I know its ben awhile since this board.
Thank you. I actually found a Dr. who has been helping me. But I will keep this one as a backup FOR SURE. He really just asks you what works for you and writes it? Do you know what sort of amounts? And so I take it they don't accept insurance because of how much it costs huh?
They do but they give u a bill to send to insurance so u can get reinburst. And the most of oxyir is 6 a day but more on others.
Could you please email me so we can talk more.

It's not letting me post it..... It says it has to be reviewed before it can be posted. Idk what the deal is. But if you don't mind me asking on here, have you had personal experience with this Dr? And also what exactly was prescribed and for what??
Hi MaC686, boy do I know what your going through! I have degenerated disk dies. as well, am on S.S.I. .. I swear when your on dissabilty doctors just don't seem to give a dam, I have been passed around to so many doctors. I finally found a suregon, but he has wanted to do so many other things to see if they will help the problem before he does anykind of surgery. Well the pain is worse than ever. I am also in need of pain meds, My primary care doc. gives me norco, and that just makes me really sick. My surgeon gave me a one time script of Demerol. That helped a bit better, didn't make me sic, but the thing is, he won't give me anymore. I'm sorry to go on like this, but what can we do? Outside of going and getting what we need on the streets!!!!!!!!!! Something has got to be done. We all need to get together and write letters to whomever like crazy! I have not been able to do anything the last 5 years of my life! I'm not living, only exsiting.
Let me know how your doing.
Janet
I have personal experience, he is my current pain doc and he believes if it works why change it. As long as u have ur current medical records with or without mri (unless its a back thing then u probably need a mri) he will write you for what u want and knows works for you. I thought it was a clinic like you hear about the doc writing for whatever without a care and shady but its not and you would like the doc he actually listens and doesn't push anything else on u. I would rather not say what I am on but the first time I went in I told him what works and he said the let's do that. He also has a clinic in ducan, ok.

Will you tell me the name of your doctor?
I am desperate.
So many post their wonderful doctors, but don't mention who they are.
I was abandoned by my doctor with no bridge medication. He doesn't care about patient well-being in general.
Help, please.
In case anyone ever wondered, Wendy was posting as "Sick of Junkies." I'm a forensic writing specialist, and her writing style is very unique. She regularly has an extra space at the end of a sentence before the period, which is unusual. Nobody else in this entire forum has this habit except three people: Wendy, her husband Tom, and Sick of Junkies.
She also has some unique spelling/capitalization hallmarks like "Noone" (usually capitalized even in the middle of a sentence) and "pist" for "pissed."
Also interesting to note that when it was supposedly her husband Tom writing to let everybody know she was almost dying, these same punctuation and grammar idiosyncrasies were evident in his messages, too.
Anyway, there is no doubt that she was the troublemaker on here years ago, just in case anybody happens to check back in years later.

Re: Smalls (# 5503)
I have an incredible provider! She is such a kind and empathetic person. I love her!
My pain is being managed wonderfully and I love a full and complete life. I am even looking for a job for the first time since 2014!
Re: Bravesfan (# 5504)
You are very welcome! It only brings happiness and encouragement to share a kind word!
I am very happy you have a great NP!
MERRY CHRISTMAS! HUGS
Re: Smalls (# 5501)
Thank you so much for the kind words. Losing your best friend, the person who knew you inside and out and loved you in spite of your faults is very hard to deal with. It changes your perspective on things. Started to see how just an encouraging word in the right moment meant so much. There were times I would feel like I needed to speak but you know if you don’t do it immediately, the moment passes. I decided I was going to speak from now on when I feel the need. My NP at pain management is so good. When she found out about my husband she so wanted to help. She upped my meds for a few months just in case I needed it. I brought her a Thank You card telling her how much that meant to me and she cried. It was like she really needed to hear that. It took such little effort on my part. So from now on I’m not keeping quiet.
There were some exceptional people here at one time. I really enjoyed reading their posts and learned so much.
Wish there was a way to share my email with you but as I remember they don’t allow that. Thank you again. I’m going to start checking here every few days. Have a Merry Christmas!
Re: fightpain (# 5497)
What do you mean? Have you had a bad experience recently? Some dr's are scared to death of losing their license! The FBI / DEA is looking for any reason to shut down ALL dr's who prescribe opiate pain medication! That's the main reason they make us, their patients, jump through hoops. Honestly, I would stand on my head, recite the alphabet backwards and twirl a baton to remain in the situation that I am in right now! My pain is being controlled and I am extremely happy with my hubby, kids and grandkids! Here's to a better life for all who need it! Hugs
Re: cliff j (# 5488)
Sorry! Some provider's make up their minds before they even look at a person. Some force you to lose weight that does not affect your pain, just to exert some power. Some force physical therapy, shots or other treatments. You must be your own advocate! Make sure you can say without looking at your chart what therapies you have tried, what medications you have tried, what works and what doesn't and WHY! I go in with an attitude of this is why you should help me, but all that aside, if a provider has made up their mind BEFORE meeting you, YOU CANNOT CHANGE THEIR MIND!
Hugs and good luck!
Re: Bravesfan (# 5487)
I totally agree! We were even planning a get together and the it kind of fell apart. My life is really great, I have an Amazing Dr and we have a routine that has worked for a long time! I pray you have found relief as well! Hugs and take one day at a time and if that's too much, take one hour at a time. Remember, tomorrow will always be better!
