Doctors Who Would Prescribe Morphine In Indiana
UpdatedI live in northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne area. My father, 59, has been on varying dosages of morphine since 2005, due to a back injury he got in 1989. As a chronic pain patient, morphine is the one drug that has been able to help him obtain at least some standard of living. The doctor (Dr. William Hedrick) and pain clinic that provided his morphine are now out of business, due to his medical license being suspended for, among other things, dangerous prescribing practices. While my father still has a small quantity of Oxycodone (10 mg three times a day, if I'm not mistaken), but that's not nearly enough to improve his quality of life. Does anyone have any suggestions what to do at this point? He's disheartened, as it took him five years to find a doctor to prescribe the medication he needed after his back pain got really bad, and he has literally no hope of finding another morphine-prescribing doctor in a timely manner. He's shutting down his social networking page, for example, as he won't be able to sit at the computer for any real amount of time anymore. So, any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated by my entire family.

Hello, James! How is your dad doing? I'm very sorry that he's run into such a problem.
Due to the new regulations that have been put in place, this medication would have to be prescribed by a pain management specialist.
However, does your dad have a PCP that he sees regularly? In most cases, they can prescribe a limited quantity of such drugs, for a short period of time, while he is looking for another doctor. They might even be able to refer him to one, so he can get the help he needs faster.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?
