No i am sorry to say that here in OREGON they dont give a $HIT about ppl in real severe chronic pain....at least those on Medicare (including those w/addtl and expensive insurance. ...

Ive been diagnosed with a NUMBER of severely painful conditions that prevent me from working since 2008. Lost my GREAT insurance and got prescribed buspirone (if u dont know that med, its what they give to ADDICTS to make any other opiates NOT work...) THAT very same DAY...

Before that i was able to at least lead a Mildly "enjoyable" life as a single Mom 2 a 5yo and a 14yo.

After TRYING everything and everything over a 3-4 mo period, i went to a CASH ONLY doctor, and was extremely pleased to Be Treated Humanely.......he LOST HIS LICENSE bca other DOCTORS didnt like him. Him and 17 other docs in OR ALSO lost Their licenses. That doctor is now on FOOD STAMPS, lost his home and is now living on public assistance!!

And ALL BCA here, in OR our "medical board" doesnt have a DOCTOR on it!! All lawyers All the Time.

So even Regular doctors are PETRIFIED to have same thing happen to them.

it's not the Doctors behind this change in treating chronic pain. it's the new DEA clamp down for the past 2 or more years.
it's affecting all pain patients including dying patients with cancer.
the doctors must comply or face losing their practice and they can't really tell you that.
educate yourself on the government websit under DEA scheduled drug control and compliance.
if millions of chronic pain patients are taken off the opiates they've originally been prescribed by their doctors, what does the DEA think is going to happen?
they think they're controlling the illegal drug trade and God forbid keeping you from being addicted (like cigarettes??)...
imho they are creating a whole new problem of most likely forcing these patients into the illegal and underground drug trade.
it's inhumane, it's cruel, it's just plain ignorant.
there are no doctors who will prescribe scheduled drugs because of the government compliance laws.

what would the police report do? what would you report? I cant get a PCP in portland area that will prescribe what I have been taking for years.(NORCO). They should be locking these doctors up for charging people for aggravating their condition. what a bunch of quacks!

A police report will do nothing. Not even if a script is stolen from you. It use to be that you file a police report, and you could get a refill on narcotics. Not anymore. If you loose your meds somehow, you suffer until your next script. For those of you who have been on Norco or other narcotics for long term, I would suggest finding a private doctor. One outside of Big HMO's. Im not saying that private docs will refill, but I have found that doctors who have their own practice are much easier to deal with. Unlike kaiser, tuality, providence, ect. Another suggestion is obtaining a Medical Marijuana card. There is SOOO much more to marijuana then smoking it or eating it. They make pills now that are just the pain relieving aspect-NO THC = no euphoric high if you cannot handle the euphoria. Medical marijuana might be the route to go if you cannot find a doc who will prescribe meds. Most docs will sign for you to get your card nowadays so you dont have to throw down 200$ to visit an OMMP clinic every year. (just not the HMO docs that i know of) Its very very sad how they punish the people who clearly dont abuse pills because of the people who DO abuse them. Something does need to change. I Really hope people will make a big deal of this (ready for things to go back to the way they were) so pain meds will not be so taboo, and the docs will not have to be scared to prescribe them. I knew a lot of doctors who just simply retired once they were doing the crackdown on pills. Come on DEA, wouldnt you rather make a profit from selling pharma meds then make no profit at all? I thought we had Big Pharma reps on the FDA panel? In the 80's the majority of the FDA were pharma reps, and pills were being pushed onto everyone and anyone visiting the doctors. Now you can't get S***

Did you ever find a doctor? I am looking for a new doctor near Portland. I also have fibromyalgia and have been seeing the same amazing doctor since I was diagnosed but he is in CA and it's getting more difficult to travel to see him since he wants to see me every 30 days.

Jal I have to disagree. I worked in the medical field for a few years and understand the real politics of it. Your reading what they want you to read. Unless you are one of the doctors falling for the governments bull rap. There is not enough funding to have DEA agents be calling the doctors. Most states have lost funding for police. I drove through town and didn't see one cop at 2:30 am ... That means when drunk drivers left the bar there were no cops.

Also, everybody did you see something common in most posts? The doctors that were caring or compassionate or didn't believe in following the DEA (who are not medically qualified to determine a patients medicinal needs) are all retired or were fired or left the state.
Samaritan is the worst medical place ever. They have killed 2 of my nieces. I have lost everything because of their lack of ability to correctly bill.

Search for doctors that are not affiliated with Samaritan or Kaiser.

Because I was a drug addict 11 years ago they wouldn't give me anything when they pulled 9 teeth. It breaks my heart and soul to think that I am still being punished for what I did when I was a teenager. I have graduated college since and worked for the courthouse for 9 years-it was two years after I worked for courthouse when they pulled my teeth. I was in so much pain, I passed out walking to car, bumped my head, and had to get stitches.

I have many health issues and I had to take everything from ibuprofen (took this until I wouldn't stop bleeding internally), amitryptline (I didn't wake up for 4 days-told to keep taking it until my body adjusted-3 weeks later I realized that I had missed a lot of work and forgot how long it had been), then gabapentin (vomited everyday on it and slept all day, took 2 months to stop vomiting after last pill, did physical therapy for 2 years, klonipins (made me sleep harder then the amitryptline, felt drunk forever and couldn't stay awake at work, I was put on Xanax because they are weaker and shorter acting but it is not right for me... Too strong, I have to have 13 hours of sleep to be fully awake and present for work, Etc.

They wouldn't give me narcotics but they would cause me to be bed ridden for over 2 years by the time I was done.

They fired my Dr. That assisted me in finding the right medication for me. He said, "the risk of a narcotic was least important compared to how progressed the pain had become and how it affected my daily living". "The risk of addiction to the pill was less a threat to my body then all the other medicines and techniques"...this is because my life showed improvement on the drug compared to not on the narcotic.

FYI: if your life is still unmanageable on the meds or you are stagnant then all the drs you see are correct to not give them to you. STAND UP FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR FELLOW PAIN FRIENDS!!! Make a list Of risks of taking it and not taking it. Have proof of how times are and what your DAILY LIFE looks like without it; then the difference when you do. Think outside of the box. Then when you get on it, show improvement, match appointment conversations to reflect those changes, dress nicer, take care of yourself, talk about the good things, PROVE THAT WE CAN MANAGE BETTER, smile after you are on your meds for the doctor... Before that express true emotion. We are not angry until we haven't had sleep or help... What are we really feeling? Pain! Pain makes us cry so we are sad. Then so sad we become depressed, then so depressed we can't function and in so much pain we can't sleep. Then that's why we lost our jobs, let our house go, quit being social, tired of hearing our own voices complaining. Especially, after trying everything. I even went nicotine, gluten, caffeine, and lactose free for a year... I was supposed to get better the first 5 minutes, then they said 1 month, then the drs proceeded to say they said 3 months and I misunderstood, then I was told 6 months I should see a change. A year later and I lost 32 pounds. I was weighing 89 lbs. I not 3 feet tall??? I ended out getting worse.

Because I was an meth addict 11 years ago, yet I have to continue to suffer; because of my choices at 19-25 years old. I have only had 2 surgeries since because I am deathly afraid of the pain I am forced to endure if I am required to have any medical procedure. I was supposed to have my breast removed...I have a rare inflammatory breast disease that isn't fibrocystic breast disease, polymiositis (which brought forth a painful dystrophy), rsd, plm, carpal tunnel syndrome (doesn't hurt compared to other medical issues more of an ache and sometimes I can't move my hands after working), my leg goes to sleep without me knowing so I have broke my leg because of twisting it when I stood up and didn't know I couldn't use it and it broke), and shingles. I get shingles every two months, I had to petition with my Dr. To get the shot to help me because I am under 60 and you can only get it once in your life... It was supposed to lessen the outbreaks, pain, or amount of shingles I get. It did nothing.

Punch line: all of this and I am allowed 30 norco 10s a month, not allowed ibuprofen because of the damage it caused, lost my job, almost lost my home, garnishments for medical bills when I was still am in so much pain, I am proactive single parent who has feelings of guilt because I kept having faith in the doctors to help me and made constant promises that I would feel better. Empty promises, because I never knew humans could be so heartless. I have only met one true compassionate human being. I cry everyday.

I have a dr. It took years and my livelihood to get one pain med a day. So I can smile when I see her and given 1000% effort into trying to time when I take it so I can get just enough sleep to not be angry and not seem like I am dying to my scared children who don't understand why they won't give me anything that works. They are tired of carrying me into the house when I can't walk, tired of hearing me lie to people to make them believe I am okay when they know I am not.

The one pill does help so I can't complain but I need a doctor so bad, I have books of medical records that showing existing issues since I was a child. I keep reading that there is no one. I can't do anymore diagnostics that I have already paid for, I am in debt over my head. I can't even have a bank account because of it. I have no criminal history but everyone looks at me like one over one pill. Help please sorry so long, I needed to get some of it out, I could write a book, oh and they offered me medical marijuana but I just got a job at a County Drug and Alcohol Program. I pray I can get up for work and be rested, be happy, be pain free, wish I didn't have to take anything, but I do need it and actually need more. Almost not worth living for myself anymore but I have 3 children who have no one else and I am determined to raise them proactively no matter what I am enduring. (I taped my broken arm to the lawnmower to mow the yard because i want my children to know that we do what we have to do and I want them to learn to grow up responsible). What they have to see breaks my heart but I hide 90% of it and I have no choice when they do have to take care of me, none! Keep looking let me know, I am educated so if someone needs my help researching I will, I just need to share because I don't want to relapse on drugs because I am in so much pain and if I don't see myself say such a horrible thing I might minimize it. Please I am willing to do anything travel anywhere.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, degenerate disc disease and chronic fatigue. 5 years ago I could hardly get out of bed and I was on so much medication. I was only 28, had never even heard of fibromyalgia. My doctor in CA is wonderful he has been my doctor for so long we have a great relationship but he is getting older 76 and he has ALS he use to prescribe me 2 months of meds every visit but in April he said a DEA agent told him he can't do that anymore. But I have checked the DEA website and it states that a doctor can write up to 90 days of meds so I'm a little confused since I can't find anything in the CA laws that states that he can't either and I can't see my doctor lying. If he wanted to stop giving me 2 months worth of meds he would have just told me. The amount of meds I take now is pretty low considering I've been on them for 11 years and I have decreased the amount by a lot. I would love to decrease the amount even more but it's been difficult. I understand that doctors need to be cautious about drug seeking behavior however there are still ppl like me that really need them to function and take care of our families. In all honesty I don't want to change doctors but I'm going to have to sooner or later became of my doctors health. I have found 4 doctors in Oregon that are willing to look at my records 2 of those have either lost a doctor or do not take insurance one is 3 hours away and the other has never called me back even though I have called 10 times in 2 weeks. I need to be able to take care of my three year old son.

Cam D,

PLEASE get in touch with me!! I would like ANY information you may have regarding the Dr you see! My mom is going thru problems as many if the people who have posted on here! Has been on pain meds for 10 years & her PCP decided she needs to come off of all if them, despite the fact she has a fractured spine & definite medical reasons to support being on these meds! He claims the "state" is cracking down & forcing drs to take patients off if pain meds that are narcotic..all the while he prescribes handfuls to other patients..he picks & choses who he's going to prescribe for! She's NEVER asked for increases never asked for refill before they were due! Seems to have happened after a disagreement they had regarding another matter. We live in a very rural area & are forced to look to the Portland area for a new dr. Any info you could provide would be tremendously appreciated!

Guys, I want you to realize something. If you have been on opiate pain meds for around 6 months or longer, straight, and you can't sleep, get diarrhea, and the pain is awful? You are addicted. Any opiate painkiller is based off morphine. Morphine is the active ingredient in your drug. Until more folks realize this, doctors will keep getting away with getting/keeping the unknowing hooked, then bailing out for whatever reason, leaving you hurting, desperate and scared. I'm not judging, I'm a fellow addict. Look up methadone clinics in your area, they can help you IMMENSELY! I have over 8 years off illicit opiate use, and live a normal life. It can be possible to get out of the nightmare hamster-wheel!
