Doc Wants To Increase Dose

Updated December 15, 2014

I have been on 8 mg of subutex for about 4 months for chronic pain that I had for 6 months. The pain was from overdoing bicycle and motorcycling for many years. I am pain free right now.
In a few months I want to quit and see if the pain comes back. The doc said to increase the dose to 16 mg a day right now. He says it will make it easier to quit when the time comes. This makes no sense to me. What is he thinking????

Hello, Daniel! How are you?

I must admit that I am also confused by that. Going by the information as provided by the FDA and the NIH, it's typically harder to stop a medication from a higher dosage.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Did you ask him about it? Perhaps he knows something from experience that isn't in the medication literature.

Does anyone else know anything about this?
